The Fine Fare brand was introduced in the 1970s by the Retail Grocers Group cooperative. Eventually expanding out of the city to New Jersey, Long Island, and Pennsylvania, Fine Fare's store base is still primarily concentrated in New York City. Retail Grocers is affiliated with Carlstadt, NJ-based General Trading, which supplies Fine Fare stores and other independents. Around 2015, the group also started running stores under the Shop Fair name.
