The Story of Banglar Dairy
FORMATION: Banglar Dairy Limited is a fully owned Company by the Government of West Bengal. It was incorporated on the Sixth day of November Two Thousand Fifteen under the Companies Act, 2013, with the following purposes: (a). Develop the overall dairy sector of West Bengal by incentivising the Dairy farming of rural farmers. (b). Ensuring procurement of surplus raw milk at a fair rate based on the quality of milk. (c). Producing quality ensured Milk and Milk products at the cheapest rate. (d). Implementation of a hygienic supply (cold) chain of the milk from rural Bengal to the urban consumer.
PROCUREMENT: Banglar Dairy procure fresh raw milk from rural dairy farmers of West Bengal state via district Milk Unions under the aegis of West Bengal Milk Federation, which is a parastatal under the Animal Resources Development Department.
QUALITY ASSURANCE: This raw milk has to pass multiple level Quality Control tests at various levels, viz. Village level Milk collection center i.e. at Dairy Cooperative Society; then at Chilling center i.e. Bulk Milk Cooling unit; then at District level Milk Union; then reaches various empanelled Dairy plants of Banglar Dairy, where this raw milk is again passed through rigorous Quality Assurance tests.
PLANT & PROCESSING: Milk is then pasteurized, processed, and packaged maintaining all standard food safety practices, several products are then reaching consumers via an extensive network of supply chain network.
MARKETING: The Supply Chain network of Banglar Dairy is composed of the Transporters, Distributors, Local Area Distributors (LADs), Licensees, franchisees, etc. intermediaries are commonly termed as SALES PARTNERS of Banglar Dairy. Click here to know the details of the Type of Sales Partners.
ORIGIN: Previously, the operation mentioned above was carried out by Mother Dairy Calcutta, which was a project of Government of West Bengal; later upgraded to Banglar Dairy which is a fully owned Government of West Bengal. Mother Dairy Calcutta being categorized as a Project has many structural limitations. These limitations were erradicated after transformation into full-fledged business entity i.e. Banglar Dairy.
