About Me

Hi, I'm Mark! 👋 Currently, I am a data scientist at LinkSquares, where I use natural language processing and deep learning techniques to teach computers to extract important information from legal contracts. In a previous life, I was a physicist. I spent some time as a postdoctoral research scientist in the QCD Theory Group in the Physics Department at the University of Jyväskylä and the Helsinki Institute of Physics at the University of Helsinki in Finland. Before that, I was a research assistant and PhD student jointly in the Nuclear Theory Group in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Stony Brook University and the Nuclear Theory Group in the Physics Department at Brookhaven National Lab. I was lucky to be a Fellow in the Data Science program at Insight Data Science in Boston, MA, USA in my transition to working in machine learning and data science. I currently live with my wife in beautiful Somerville, MA.

More about my Physics Research

Education

I received my PhD in Physics from Stony Brook University in August 2018, and was a research assistant in the Nuclear Theory Group and concurrently in the Nuclear Theory Group at Brookhaven National Lab.

In May 2013 graduated with a BS in Physics and BS in Mathematics with high honors from Indiana University, Bloomington. I grew up for the most part in Fishers, IN, but consider the Buffalo, NY area to be my second "home".

Personal

I am an avid cyclist (road and mountain bike), follow professional road cycling fanatically, and try to ski as much as possible. Header picture is Emerald Lake in Vermont.
