In version 2.1.12 of Power CD+G to MP4 Karaoke Converter and Power CD+G to Video Karaoke Converter we have introduced animated video backgrounds. First you have to start MIDI import wizard by selecting Import MIDI karaoke wizard from File menu. Karaoke CD+G Creator will prompt you to download and install software MIDI converter. It will take a while and you will be presented with a Import MIDI window.
Another great thing about MIDI karaoke is that a lot of it contain already synchronized lyrics, which of course are recognized by Karaoke CD+G Creator and imported with their timing instructions, making the most tiresome process of creating karaoke songs non-existent. This would make playing, ripping and burning karaoke impossible. This is due to Windows being overprotective (which probably is a good thing) in its effort to block ransomware. I've been looking at the open source tools, since they are obviously free, but what about commercial programs? Are there any that can be used for free to author CDGs? In fact, doesn't even have to be CDG; I'd settle for a free program to make a MP4 video with karaoke style on-screen lyrics. But haven't been able to find a free tool for that either.
AegiSub. Free open source. Advanced SubStation Alpha (.ass) lyrics only. Doesn't have an easy way to synchronize on-screen lyrics with audio; you have to just fiddle around with timing on each lyric phrase. People talk about using this to make karaoke, but I'm not sure why you would. It's hard to use, and I'm not aware of any programs that will play .ass lyrics on top of an mp3.
