Welcome to MARIN Lab!
How do light-sensitive proteins process, transport, and convert light energy at the molecular level?
How has light perception evolved across microbial life, and how can we harness these natural systems to design next-generation optogenetic tools?
We are an interdisciplinary research group that operates at the intersection of computational chemistry, biophysics, bioinformatics, and vibrational spectroscopy. Our research focuses on discovering, characterizing, and engineering novel microbial rhodopsin-type proteins for next-generation optogenetic tools, environmental applications, and biomedical solutions. By bridging theoretical multiscale modeling with experimental spectroscopy (FTIR, Raman, VCD, UV-Vis) and metagenomic discovery, we aim to uncover fundamental photochemical mechanisms, trace the evolutionary diversification of light perception, and translate light-sensitive proteins into innovative bio-tools.
