mechagodzilla is walking up with all his fancy tricks & toys, lasers in his eyes, missiles in his armpit, acting like he's hot shit for being made of space titanium and having all that bling... he didn't work for it, mechagodzilla is a POSEUR, he didn't work for all that success, dude was just born into it, he's a fucking robo-aristocrat.

So as a newbie to the wild cinema landscape of the Kaiju genre, I decided to start with Mechagodzilla since he was the only villain monster I had heard of. So on a story level this movie was super super silly, and I had a great time experiencing this style of film for the first time with my kids.

This movie is pure 70s Godzilla fun, and it is director Jun Fukuda's best Godzilla movie. The monster action is excellent. Mechagodzilla is just awesome and while I like all versions of the character, the Showa era design is my favorite.

No cooler piece of pulp cinema hardware than Mechagodzilla's mechanical body, somehow equally appealing to his organic reptile twin, maybe even more so (why can't they be friends, why, why??). I like the genre kaleidoscope this is, Godzilla blended with Bond, an alien invasion story and for some reason a pinch of Planet of the Apes as well.

Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla) is a 1974 tokusatsu kaiju film produced by Toho Company Ltd., and the fourteenth installment in the Godzilla series as well as the Showa series. The film was released to Japanese theaters on March 21, 1974.

Later, a black mountain does appear in the sky. "Godzilla" then rises from a dormant volcano and starts on a rampage. Many people, however, do not believe Godzilla will be the monster to destroy Earth. That reflection is reinforced when Godzilla attacks Anguirus and nearly kills him. In a surprising turn of events, another Godzilla sets forth, only to discover that the rampant Godzilla is an impostor. Later revealed as Mechagodzilla, a robot of titanic proportions that was designed and created by ape-like aliens to destroy the real Godzilla. After Godzilla is beaten, he retreats to Monster Island, where he is hit by lightning over and over again.

Meanwhile in Okinawa, King Caesar is successfully awakened and battles Mechagodzilla. At first, King Caesar appears to have the advantage, but is soon overwhelmed. When Godzilla returns, now super-charged with electricity, the rampant mech is destroyed. Caesar returns to his cave to sleep once again, and Godzilla returns to the sea.

In 1977, Cinema Shares purchased the North American distribution rights to Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla from Toho and released the movie through Downtown Distribution under the title Godzilla vs. The Bionic Monster. As they had done with Godzilla vs. Megalon the previous year, Cinema Shares simply utilized the Toho-produced international English dub.

As with most of the other 1970s Godzilla films, the Japanese version of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla featured several scenes with violent content and strong language. However, unlike in the past, Cinema Shares retained the violent monster action, including a shot of Godzilla spraying blood. The edits include:

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla has remained popular among fans in recent years due to its jazzy music, colorful special effects and entertaining monster fights. The film's robust themes and fairly complex plot stand out against a time when the Godzilla franchise was being fueled by increasingly lower production values. It is widely considered the best of the 1970s Godzilla films, and is one of the most popular films in the series.

Die hard fans of the Monsterverse may have suspected that Godzilla's larger, more deadly, and more importantly robotic twinsie would show up in Godzilla vs. Kong but I did not. Mechagodzilla makes his terrifying debut two thirds of the way into a side plot starring Bryan Tyree Henry, Millie Bobby Brown, and Julian Dennison that, to be honest, I assumed was going nowhere. The existence of Mechagodzilla is actually crucial to however much sense this movie is trying to make, considering that the threat of Mechagodzilla is what turned Godzilla against Florida and necessitated the airlifting of King Kong to Antarctica in the first place (this movie is incredible), but the facts of why he needs to be in the movie aren't as important as the fact that he's there at all.

It's hard to be pleasantly surprised by much these days. Almost every time something happens that's out of the ordinary, it's because that thing is terrible and even the low expectations of a traumatized American millennial didn't think it was going to get that bad. For the millions of people who have spent most of the past year inside their homes, the upper limit of finding new things to feel good about without leaving the house whooshed by months ago, which is why the joy in realizing Godzilla vs. Kong is a bait-and-switch for Mechagodzilla Wants That Smoke feels unbelievably satisfying.

I have completed the main story to Nier Automata, but still trying to get all of the endings and trophies (playing on PS4). One of the trophies has something to do with remote controlling the machines? I have done the trophy for hacking the machines and I've only had the prompt for remote control a few times, not nearly enough to get the trophy, anyway.
