If you tend to drive faster than the speed limit or need to know how fast you are going, you can enable the speedometer feature in Google Maps. However, since your actual speed will change colors on the map, it can make it easy to see from your peripheral vision without dangerously staring at the screen while driving.

The speedometer is yet another feature that helps with navigation, but the Maps app is only as accurate as the device you use it on. Make sure to calibrate Google Maps for better and more accurate results during your travels.

Hey guys. Like in the title I'm having a weird issue with my head unit where the speedometer for maps does not show up. It works fine on my phone however. It works in waze but I don't really like using waze. Anyone had a similar issue? Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Google Maps is a boon when you are exploring unknown destinations. If you have got wheels underneath you, you have to handle steering, look at the side mirror, check the speedometer, brakes, gears, accelerators and... puff! The list goes on. Too much at a time? There's a clever trick in Google Maps that can compile two tasks in one for you.

While navigating through Google Maps, users will actually be getting information about their speed, like a speedometer of the vehicle. It is more of a speed enforcer than a speedometer -- if you exceed your speed limit, Google Maps will guide you to check the speed of their vehicles. Additionally, you will be notified when you exceed the speed limit and Google Maps' speedometer will change colours.

The on-screen speedometer of Google Maps was first rolled out in 2019 and initially was available in Asia, Europe, South America, UK, and the US regions. Later on, it was made available to other regions too. The speed limit function, however, is not yet available in all regions. You can check the process to activate the speedometer in Google Maps, if it's available in your area and have a safe journey!

- The process is done! Now, if you exceed the speed limit, Google Maps will notify you automatically. However, Google suggests to use your vehicle's speedometer to confirm the actual speed of the vehicle.

Google rolled out the speedometer in Maps to all Android users -- so if you use Google Maps on your iPhone, you won't see it yet. You can check the Maps app settings to see if you have it. We also tell you how to report a speed camera trap and an incident like a traffic jam.

I've seen that Google Maps is supposed to show a speedometer - and I have enabled the setting but I don't see anything on screen? When navigating it shows the speed limit, but not my speed. Am I missing something? I would really like to be able to use Google Maps and my primary navigation app but this feature is what makes me have to use Waze or AmiGo.

Apple Maps does not have a specific speedometer, but you can activate Speed Limit so that you can see what speed you are allowed to drive in the places where it is available. However, you must be aware that you only see Speed Limit when you are navigating.

I'm trying to build a director friendly wall of graphs for quick network over view. I can't post a picture here but I'd like to make a wall of the speedometer graphs that you get when you drill down to a sensor in the devices area.

I assume that with "speedometer" you mean the sensor channels that you see in the Overview tab of a sensor. If that is the case, then you can add the channels to a map by using the object Channel (gauges) from the Status Icons group. Once you drag this object in your map, you can drag a sensor from the device tree on the left to it, in order to have the map object display information from that sensor.

In the days to come, Google maps will notify you if you are near the natural calamity area in the form of alerts. Also, it will predict you on how hard and also at what time the crisis will hit that particular area and if you are near to that area, you can prepare for it accordingly. Also after the natural calamity occurred it will show how much impact it has on the affected area and also on its surrounding areas.

It would be great to have speedometer widget with current speed, recording distance and duration info. The data is accessible now from GPS and Recording views (nearby locus icon at top of screen) but text is too small to read while riding bike.

seriously... locus is by far the most advanced gps app on the planet. but it severly lacks in very basic features. i cant even see my current speed or the current altitude or what i have climbed already. even silly garmins or a five-euro-speedometer beat the shit out of locus in this regard.

Before Google Maps became omnipresent, many drivers used Waze. The Waze interface had a virtual speedometer. Besides offering the estimated speed of the vehicle, the Waze speedometer offers quite a few additional snippets of information.

Now whenever you are driving and are using Google Maps, you should be able to see the speedometer feature within the app. We should point out that at the moment, the speedometer feature is only available on Android devices. It is also limited to countries at this time of writing, such as Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Portugal, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

We decided to develop a simple mobile application to show a speedometer in Google Maps (or Google Navigation). After the last update, Maps Speedometer can be activated for every app you want. It displays a small overlay with your speed in an elegant black box on the left side of your phone's screen. It automatically shows up as soon as Google Maps (or Google Navigation) is launched.

The speedometer provides real-time information about your vehicle's speed while notifying users when they might be going over the speed limit. The speed indicator gives visual cues based on colours to help you keep your speed in check.

iOS (jailbroken): You'll need to jailbreak your iPhone for this, but once you do, a simple tweak can put an accurate speedometer into the default Google Maps app so you can know exactly how fast you're currently traveling.

Many turn-by-turn GPS apps already include an speedometer feature, which uses the iPhone's accelerometer, but this free GMaps solution is fantastic for when you're on public transit, or in someone else's car and can't easily see the speedometer.

We reported previously that Google Maps is now showing speed camera and speed limit data when navigating but it appears that we can now better manage our speed with an option to display driving speed via an on-screen speedometer (via Android Police). This addition feels like a natural progression and makes a ton of sense for accessibility.

Google Maps, much like several other Google products, has come a long way from its origins as a no-nonsense lightweight navigation app to a confusing mishmash of features that most people won't use. Not all of them are necessarily bad, though. The app even got the ability to order food directly from select restaurants without the hassle of third-party apps. A few days ago, Google Maps got a host of new features that included speed limit indication and speed camera alerts. The feature was tested in select regions but wasn't rolled out until recently. Today some users are starting to see an option to see a speedometer while they drive.

First spotted by Android Police, the feature is available only to some users and can be switched on in the app's preferences under Navigation Settings. You'll see a new toggle switch that says 'display speedometer' at the bottom left corner of the screen when using driving guidance. It doesn't seem to work in tandem with the new speed limit indicators just yet, but it's definitely something to look out for in future updates. It is also worth noting that it doesn't work with Android Auto for now.

It may be a while before users from all regions get the feature. Reports from users indicate that it is sparingly available in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Portugal, Sweden, the UK, and the US. It is very likely that Google is testing the features on a few users before deploying it en-masse. Tracking the speed of a moving vehicle using just a mobile device and GPS is tricky, and its best that Google takes its time on this one. There will certainly be more than one instance of Google Maps' speedometer showing a different reading than the one on the vehicle which will result in unpleasant encounters with law enforcement.

Unfortunately, sometimes coding bugs can make one or more of these processes crash, which can lead to experiencing difficulties while using Apple Maps, such as not being able to see the speedometer info, location issues, and much more.

Google Maps is not shy borrowing useful features from Waze, following the acquisition of the company by Google. Just recently Maps gained indication for speed cameras, speed traps and the option to report possible hazards on the road. Now, a speedometer has been implemented on the navigation screen to help you stay within speed limits.

The app warns you if you are exceeding the speed limit while the speedometer is displayed in the lower-left corner of the navigation screen. That's another feature coming straight from Waze but unfortunately, the speedometer rollout is staged and only a few users report being available. At this point commuters in the US, Belgium, UK and Brazil can take advantage of the speedometer while the rest of the world will have to wait a little bit longer. ff782bc1db
