If you want a rugged, travel-ready container specifically designed to shield your INNOVA diagnostic tools from road grime and impacts, choose Maoershan EVA Hard Case; if you need a versatile, standalone 2-in-1 OBD2 scanner with integrated battery testing capabilities for 1996+ vehicles, choose UJS 2. These two items solve completely different problems for the modern truck owner: one is a protective vessel for existing gear, while the other is the active diagnostic engine itself. I have analyzed the specifications of both products to help you decide which belongs in your garage or glovebox, focusing entirely on what the design and data sheets tell us about their real-world utility.
• Maoershan EVA Hard Case: Its biggest strength is its specialized impact resistance and semi-waterproof protection for specific INNOVA scanners, but it offers no diagnostic functionality whatsoever—it is just an empty shell. This pick is strictly for owners who already possess an INNOVA 6030P or 5610 and need secure transport.
• UJS 2: Its biggest strength is its dual capability as both a code reader and a deep-dive 12V battery tester without needing a separate app, though it lacks ABS or SRS system coverage. This pick is ideal for DIY mechanics and truck owners who want a single plug-and-play device to check engine health and battery performance.
• The choice ultimately depends on whether you are looking to store your current tools safely or acquire a new tool that performs the actual work.
The Maoershan EVA Hard Case exists to solve a very specific problem: keeping expensive diagnostic equipment safe during transit. If you own an INNOVA 6030P or 5610 OBD2 scanner, you know how easily these devices can get scratched, crushed, or exposed to dust in the back of a pickup truck or a crowded toolbox. This case is built from high-grade hard EVA material, which provides a tactile, soft-touch exterior while offering a rigid shell underneath. That combination is critical because it absorbs shocks from bumps and drops without transferring that force directly to the delicate electronics inside.
For truck owners who frequently move between job sites or travel long distances, this case is essential. The manufacturer explicitly notes its semi-waterproof performance, which means a sudden rainstorm or a splash of road salt won't immediately ruin your scanner. The internal dimensions are listed as 9.76 by 1.77 by 5.98 inches, a compact footprint that fits snugly around the INNOVA units without adding unnecessary bulk. It is lightweight enough to toss into a backpack or glove compartment, yet sturdy enough to prevent dirt and wear from accumulating on the device.
However, you must understand exactly what this product is before buying. It is a "case only" item. The listing makes it clear that the device and accessories are not included. If you are looking for a tool to read codes, check engine lights, or test your battery, this is not it. It is purely a storage solution. You should buy this if you already own the compatible INNOVA hardware and find yourself constantly losing it or damaging it due to poor storage habits. If you don't have the scanner yet, buying this case first is premature; you will need the tool before you need the armor.

The UJS 2 represents a shift toward all-in-one simplicity for vehicle maintenance. Unlike many scanners that require complex setups, Bluetooth connections, or subscription-based apps, this unit is designed for immediate use. You simply plug it into the OBD2 port, turn on the ignition, and the 2.8-inch color screen comes to life. There is no internal battery to charge, meaning you never have to worry about a dead device when you need it most. The interface supports 11 languages, including English and Spanish, making it accessible to a wide range of users.
What sets this tool apart for truck owners is the integration of a 12V battery tester directly into the diagnostic scanner. Many cars and trucks suffer from electrical gremlins that look like engine problems but are actually battery failures. The UJS 2 allows you to test voltage, capacity, State of Health (SOH), State of Charge (SOC), Cold Cranking Amps (CCA), and internal resistance with a single click. It even provides a real-time voltage graph. This saves you the hassle of switching between a code reader and a multimeter or battery analyzer. It covers over 65,000 Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) and includes a repair solution library, so you can diagnose the issue and understand the fix before paying a mechanic.
This device is best suited for those who want comprehensive engine diagnostics without the complexity of enterprise-level systems. It handles the standard OBD2 modes, including I/M readiness for smog checks and EVAP system tests, covering gasoline and hybrid vehicles including Tesla models. However, it is important to note the limitations found in the data: it does not support ABS, SRS (airbags), or Transmission systems. If your primary goal is checking why your check engine light is on or verifying your battery's health, this is a powerful, standalone solution. If you need to scan transmission codes or airbag sensors, this tool will not be sufficient for your needs.
• Best for physical protection: Maoershan EVA Hard Case wins decisively with its hard EVA shell, dustproof design, and semi-waterproof rating for safeguarding sensitive electronics.
• Best for diagnostic versatility: UJS 2 is the clear winner here, offering 2-in-1 functionality that combines engine scanning with deep battery analysis in a single handheld unit.
• Best for ease of use: UJS 2 requires zero setup, no app downloads, and no charging; you just plug and play, whereas the case requires you to already own and organize a separate device.
• Best for compatibility breadth: UJS 2 supports all 1996+ US models and newer European/Asian vehicles across 11 protocols, including Teslas, whereas the case is limited strictly to INNOVA 6030P and 5610 models.
• Best for cost efficiency (single purchase): Buying the UJS 2 gives you the scanner, battery tester, and lifetime updates in one go, while the case is an add-on expense that assumes you already have the tool.
• Best for travel safety: The Maoershan case is superior for keeping your gear safe during rough hauling or outdoor trips where exposure to elements is a risk.
• Best for routine maintenance: UJS 2 is the practical choice for regular owners who need to check I/M readiness or troubleshoot engine codes frequently.
• Best for space saving: While the case adds volume to your storage, the UJS 2 eliminates the need for multiple tools, freeing up space in your toolbox.
If I were equipping my own truck today, I would choose the UJS 2 as my primary investment. The ability to perform both engine diagnostics and a thorough battery health check with a single, plug-and-play device is too valuable to ignore. It solves two common headaches—checking for codes and verifying battery health—without requiring me to juggle multiple gadgets or download apps that might fail to connect. The inclusion of lifetime updates and a robust repair library further solidifies its value for anyone doing their own maintenance.
I would only recommend the Maoershan EVA Hard Case if I had already purchased the specific INNOVA scanner mentioned and needed to protect it during frequent travel. As a standalone purchase, the case has no function unless you already own the compatible hardware. For the vast majority of truck owners looking to upgrade their diagnostic capabilities, the UJS 2 offers the tangible utility and technical depth required to keep a vehicle running smoothly.
Yes, the UJS 2 supports 1996 and newer U.S. models, as well as newer European and Asian models, covering gasoline and hybrid vehicles.
The product description specifies that the internal size of 9.76 x 1.77 x 5.98 inches is designed for the INNOVA 6030P and 5610 models. Using it for other brands may result in a loose fit or failure to close properly, so it is intended for those specific devices only.
The UJS 2 provides deep diagnostics including carbon buildup tests, cranking and charging system tests, and access to over 65,000 DTC codes. However, it does not cover ABS, SRS, or transmission systems, so it cannot fully replace a high-end professional multi-system scanner for complex repairs.
No, the UJS 2 does not have an internal battery. It draws power directly from the vehicle's OBD2 port when you plug it in and turn on the ignition, so there is no charging or complex setup required.
