This desk monitor was completed during my time as a part of the HardwareNxt 2021 cohort. We were taught about a variety of topics in consumer electronics design including: manufacturing processes, DFMA , the product design process (PDP), and material selection.
I designed this project and rendered the final assembly using Solidworks. The electronic components and hardware in the assembly are from GrabCAD and McMaster Carr, respectively.
After researching common problems in an office workspace, I concluded that the greatest consumer need was to resolve the health issues associated with poor posture and desk ergonomics.
Thus, I designed an enclosure for a Raspberry Pi based device which utilizes a small camera and is mounted onto the nearest wall. Motion tracking technology is utilized to monitor the users posture. Whenever deviation from a healthy baseline posture is detected a small buzzer will go off until proper posture is reestablished. The design was created with the intent of mass manufacturing using injection molding and ABS plastic.
