Welcome

About me

On this page you will find some information about my scientific background, my research, and my engagement with the scientific community. I am (micro)palaeobiologist, working in the field of biometrics. I employ morphometric techniques, complemented by molecular biology and geochemistry, to study the ecology, adaptive evolution, and taxonomy of organisms across the protist and invertebrate realm. My main research focus includes: (1) How and how quickly do organisms adapt to environmental changes? (2) What are character traits that indicated high/low evolvability? (3) What is the relationship between adaptability and evolvability across organismal groups? (4) What impact do differences in evolvability make in the light of climate change; for instance for the stability of the oceans' trophic network and particle cycles? (5) What is the interaction between organisms and climate, for instance through changes in the carbon cycle? (6) How can we use quantitative morphological methods to objectively differentiate species? How can we use this to implement automatic species recognition algorithms?

My last academic position was at the Faculty of Science of the Charles University Prague in the Department of Geology and Palaeontology together with doc. RNDr. Katarína Holcová. I finished my Ph.D. at the Eberhard‒Karls Universität Tübingen (partly as guest scientist at the MARUM Bremen) under supervision of Prof. Dr Michal Kučera in February 2015.

I have meanwhile left Academia and am currently working as Data Scientist for CH Media.
