ABOUT ME
Hi! I am Manos Zapartas (I use Emmanouil only for official purposes). I’m an astrophysicist studying how massive stars (especially in binaries) live, interact and eventually explode as core-collapse supernovae, forming compact objects and gravitational-wave sources. I work with large-scale binary population simulations (e.g., POSYDON, where I’m an active member and former core developer) and detailed stellar evolution models (e.g., MESA) to make predictions and test them against what the Universe shows us.
I’m currently based in Greece, working between Heraklion and Athens. I am affiliated with the Institute of Astrophysics at FORTH, being the PI of the SFERICSS project, funded by Postdoctoral HFRI (ELIDEK) Fellowship, as well as with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where I am currently teaching at the Physics Department.
Before this, I held postdoctoral positions at the National Observatory of Athens (in the group of Alceste Bonanos) and the University of Geneva (in the group of Tassos Fragos). I completed my PhD and MSc in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Amsterdam (under the supervision of Selma de Mink and Alex de Koter), and hold a Physics degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
