"I would like to take this opportunity to pass along my congratulations to Manley on his retirement as well as a heartfelt thank you for the excellent work he did as President of BCCA. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Manley at BCCA as well as later at CCA and to have been a part of the team that hired him for the position of President."

“I have known Manley McLachlan since his early days with the Saskatchewan Construction Association in the mid to late 1990s. I have always found him to be a tremendous promoter of the construction industry, and one who truly has an unbridled and unabashed love for the industry, which probably is a direct result of his days working in the family’s construction business in northern Saskatchewan.

Certainly Manley has always had a contractor’s attitude. Once he was convinced of the soundness of arriving at a certain destination, there was never any hill too high, stream too wide, or road too rocky, that would dampen his enthusiasm or resolve to reach that goal. I have always admired his determination and commitment.

Those of you who know Manley know that he has these folksy sayings or truisms that would inspire a Will Rogers, Casey Stengal or Yogi Berra. One of my favourites was when he got up to thank a visiting First Nations’ Chief who got into a heated argument with some northern contractors at a Saskatchewan Construction Association meeting. Manley said: “Well I guess we now sorta feel like two fellas in a bathtub who have lost the bar of soap. We both know what we have to do but we also know we have to be very careful!”

Manley – all the best to you and Jan and family. May your future be filled with many happy and healthy days - and bubble baths - so you need never fear losing the bar of soap!"

-Michael Atkinson, CCA President

"My best memory with Manley? Having serious discussions about association business and Manley making his point by telling a story about a dog and some whiskey..."

- Bill Everitt, COO of SICA
