MandarinArk, an innovative Montessori Chinese immersion learning program, was founded in 2007. It combines Chinese language learning with math, science, social study skills in an energetic, creative, engaging, and authentic environment by using a research-based curriculum, multimedia technology, and individualized lesson plan.
The MandarinArk Montessori Chinese Immersion private/small group program is designed for 5-12 years old students who are interested in learning Chinese language and culture. It will help to develop students’ listening, speaking, reading, and typing/writing skills based on scenario-based/thematic topics. It will also look at basic principles in the Pinyin phonetic system and related Chinese culture.
Class sessions will consist of lectures, pair/small group discussions, video presentations with follow up individual/group activities, and student presentations. The lectures will supplement the textbook materials by engaging in discussions and practices. The pair/small group discussions, video presentations, and student presentations will illustrate how these words/phrases/topics can be applied to specific real-life contexts. The class will be taught in Chinese.

Dr. Jinhui Xu serves as lead teacher at MandarinArk, an innovative Montessori Chinese immersion learning program founded in 2007. She worked as an Early Childhood, PreK-12 Chinese teacher in traditional public, charter, and private Montessori schools. Dr. Xu also worked as an adjunct faculty member at University of Massachusetts Boston and Global Outreach Director at Boston Renaissance Charter Public School. Before she came to Boston to pursue her higher degrees in 2005, she held positions in business administration and management in production and marketing fields from 1995 to 2005 in Samsonite China.
Dr. Xu has four teaching certificates: the first certificate is Massachusetts PreK-12 Chinese Teaching, the second one is Teaching Social Studies and History to English Language Learners, the third one is American Montessori Society (AMS) Early Childhood (2.5-6 years) teaching, and the fourth one is Early Education Certification (pending).
Dr. Xu’s areas of interest and expertise is in Montessori Chinese immersion teaching pedagogy and early childhood multilingual development model research with a mixed method approach (quantitative and qualitative). Dr. Xu holds a doctoral degree in education (Ed.D) and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts Boston, and a second master degree in business administration (MBA) from Hult International Business School.
