Raymond Clinton Bourne
Raymond Clinton Bourne was born in 1904, his birth was registered in December quarter 1904 in the district of Cheadle, Staffordshire. His parents Oswald Mosely Bourne and Elizabeth Bould, had married in 1885 in Caverswall, Staffordshire.
In 1911, six years old Raymond Bourne was with his parents Oswald and Elizabeth and siblings, John 19, Joseph 14, Harold 12, Fred 10, Oswald 8, Elizabeth 4, and Roland aged 2. The family were living at 10 Stanfield Street, Adderley Green, Longton, Staffordshire.
In 1921, Raymond is recorded as a 16 years old Carter (out of work), with parents Oswald and Elizabeth and siblings, Joseph 25, Harold 22, Frederick 20, Oswald W. 19, Lizzie 14, Roland G. 13, and Sylvia E. aged 9.
Following the 1923 disaster at Maltby Main Colliery, newspaper reports of the deceased stated: Raymond Clinton Bourne, 19, of 49 Salisbury Place, Maltby. (Brother of Harold Bourne).
The death of Raymond C. Bourne aged 18 was registered in March quarter 1924 in Doncaster registration district.
Harold Bourne
Harold Bourne was born on 12 October 1898 at Longton, Staffordshire. He was baptised on 6 November 1898, the son of Oswald and Elizabeth Bourne, Miner of 39 Gladstone Street, Longton Staffordshire. Harold's parents, Oswald Mosely Bourne and Elizabeth Bould, had married on 23 November 1885 at the parish church, Caverswall, Staffordshire.
In 1901, Two years old Harold Bourne was with his parents Oswald and Elizabeth and siblings, Sarah 14, George 13, John 8, Joseph 4, and Frederick aged 2 months. The family were living at 39 Gladstone Street, Caverswall, Cheadle, Staffordshire.
By 1911, Harold is recorded as 12 years old, with his parents Oswald and Elizabeth, and siblings, John 19, Joseph 14, Fred 10, Oswald 8, Raymond 6, Elizabeth 4, and Roland aged 2. The family were living at 10 Stanfield Street, Adderley Green, Longton, Staffordshire.
On the 9th April 1915, (at the age of 16 years 6 months), Harold Bourne of 30 Wolstan Road, Adderley Green, Longton, enlisted in the 5th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment and was assigned the service number 4390. His next of kin was recorded as his father Oswald Bourne of 30 Wolstan Road, Adderley Green, Longton. Harold's medical Examination on 9 April 1915, records him as 5ft 3.25 inches tall with an apparent age of 19 years, a chest girth of 34 inches, and of good physical development.
Because of his young age, Private 4390, Harold Bourne, was discharged on 22 September 1915 at St Albans. On Harold's discharge papers, his commanding officer had remarked, “has done his best but too young”. Description at time of discharge was: Age 16 years 11 months. Height 5 feet 7 inches. Chest 35 inches. Complexion fresh. Eyes blue. Hair light. Trade Collier. Descriptive marks – Scar by left ear.
In 1921, Harold Bourne was recorded as a 22 years old Miner, with his parents Oswald and Elizabeth and siblings, Joseph 25, Frederick 20, Oswald W. 19, Raymond C. 16, Lizzie 14, Roland G. 14, and Sylvia E. aged 9. The family were living at 30 Wolstan Road, Adderley Green, Longton Staffordshire.
Following the 1923 disaster at Maltby Main Colliery, newspaper reports of the deceased stated: “Harold Bourne, 25, Haulage Hand, 49 Salisbury Place, Maltby”.
The death of Harold Bourne aged 24, was registered in March quarter 1924 in Doncaster Registration district.

In November 1923, Oswald Bourne of 27 Wolstan Road, Adderley Green, Staffs, father of Raymond Clinton and Harold Bourne, was awarded a grant of £50 from the Sheffield Daily Telegraph Maltby Relief Fund.
