John Wilson was born about 1869 in Whitehaven, Cumberland. He was married in September quarter 1893 in Whitehaven to Christina Gilmour.
In 1901, John Wilson is 32 years old Ship Yard Clerk, with his wife Christina aged 25, and children: Albert aged 2, and Christina aged 11 months. They are living at 7 Barque Street, Barrow in Furness, Lancashire. Daughter Christina sadly died shortly after this census was taken. Her death was registered in June quarter 1901 in Barrow in Furness.
Sometime between 1903 and 1905, the family had moved to Yorkshire. By 1911, John Wilson is a 41 years old Miner with his wife Christina aged 35, and children: Albert 12, George Henry 9, Elsie 8, John 3, and Norman Wilson aged 1 year. They have been married for 15 years, 10 children have been born and 5 of them have died. The family are living at 143 Doncaster Road, Denaby Main, Yorkshire.
In 1911, John Wilson is recorded as a 52 years old Miner, (timbering on roadways) at Maltby Main Colliery. He is with his wife Christina aged 46, and children: George H. Wilson aged 19 a coal miner at Maltby Main Colliery. John Wilson aged 14 mine surface worker at Maltby Colliery. Elsey aged 18. Norman aged 10, Doris aged 8. Vera aged 7. And Ethhel aged 5. The family are living at 90 Muglet Lane, Maltby, Nr Rotherham.
In the early morning of Sunday, 10 December 1922, John Wilson was buried by a fall of roof at Maltby Main Colliery, and he died shortly afterwards. His death was registered in December 1922 at Doncaster.
