English language teaching is well established on the Maltese Islands, so schools have a pool of experienced teachers to cater for all ages and levels of English. There are over 40 language schools in Malta and Gozo, offering a range of courses and leisure-time activities.

In 2022 Maltalingua School of English updated its EAQUALS certification of Excellence in English Language Education. Maltalingua offers a variety of English courses to suit the needs of many different types of students. The courses are taught in small groups with a friendly atmosphere and are suitable for adults of all ages. General, intensive and private English courses are open to all students, while the business and exam preparation courses require students to have an English level of intermediate or above. In the Standard English, Intensive English, and IELTS exam preparation courses, the maximum number of students is 12 per class (8-10 on average). Business English courses are limited to 8 students per class (4-6 on average). We also offer private English classes for students who would like a lot of individual attention from their teacher.

The Standard English course is designed to improve general English communication skills and to help develop a comprehensive understanding of the English language. This course is most suitable for participants who aim to devote half their day to improve their English.

The Standard English language course is provided in six levels, from Beginner (A1) to Advanced (C1), and starts every Monday. The curriculum covers the English skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, and also aims to improve grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The main target is to improve fluency and communication, and teachers provide the opportunity to practise English in every lesson. Since there is no fixed time limit, students can attend this course for as long as required.

Additional private lessons:

Private lessons can also be combined with all group courses. Students can enrol in 1-2 extra private lessons per day and can be tailor-made to your needs. Private lessons with your teacher are a great complement to group tuition.

Business English courses are a superb choice for motivated and busy executives and business students with a moderate to high proficiency in English; students need to be Intermediate (B1+) or higher. We know that your time is valuable; this is why Maltalingua aims to develop the English language skills that you need for your professional life as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Private lessons can be combined with all courses listed above. They allow you to focus more intensively on topics of your choosing with a private teacher. Instruction can be scheduled for 1 or 2 lessons in the afternoon.

30+ Study Holiday Programme - The Club 30+ Standard English course is designed to improve general English communication skills and to help develop a comprehensive understanding of the English language. This course suitable for participants who aim to devote half their day to improve their English and would prefer to be in a group with other learners aged 30 and above. May also be combined with one or two private lessons per day.

This course is most suitable for participants who aim to devote half their day to improve their English and who would prefer to be in a group with other learners aged 30 and above. Being in a group where the average age is higher means you can discuss more age-appropriate topics with others who have a similar amount of life experience.

50+ Study Holiday Programme - The Club 50+ Standard English course is designed to improve general English communication skills and to help develop a comprehensive understanding of the English language. This course suitable for participants who aim to devote half their day to improve their English and would prefer to be in a group with other learners aged 50 and above. May also be combined with one or two private lessons per day.

Our IELTS Academic Exam Preparation course is designed for higher level students who will benefit from an internationally-recognised qualification that assesses their English language skills.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) was designed to assess the language skills of candidates who wish to study or work in an English-speaking environment, and exam takers also receive a valuable certificate that is recognised by professional institutions and universities worldwide.

Please note that you have to register for the exam on your own after booking our language course. We cannot guarantee your participation in the exam otherwise, and Maltalingua is not liable in such an event.

Private English lessons are the most effective and intensive form of language teaching in which all the attention is completely on the individual goals and focus of each participant. The lessons are continuously adapted to the student's abilities and progress.

Courses usually consist of 20 or 30 lessons per week. Private lessons can also be booked in addition to the group courses, with one or two lessons per day. It is also possible to choose super intensive private lessons with 40 lessons per week.

This is an opportunity to learn the basis of Classic Greek starting from the alphabet. By the end of the course, you will have learnt basic vocabulary, grammar, and reading simple texts of this language that has contributed so much culture and science. No prior knowledge of the language is required.

This study-unit is the introductory basis of the Certificate Course in French. It introduces complete beginners to the study of the language, exposing learners to level-appropriate oral conversations and written texts and training them to produce simple utterances and written sentences.

The study-units are designed as a series of continuing courses providing guidance for beginners with no previous knowledge of German steadily improving language skills. They are based on a communicative approach in class with a focus on applied German, starting from everyday-life situations to covering more broad topics as well as more specialised language use.

This study-unit is an introduction to Italian language and Italian civilization. It is designed for students who have never learned Italian or whose knowledge is limited to just a few words. It combines basic grammar, vocabulary and communication skills studied in real life situations. e24fc04721
