his is a leatherworking knife. I made it in 2014 and reground it in 2016.
It was originally a hunting knife, but this was back before I knew how to heat treat. So it broke. So I took the most useful piece and reground it into a tiny little knife. This knife is about three inches long. Including the handle.
This little blade is folded steel. There are more than 90 layers of steel. in this little knife. The original was my first damascus blade, so I am rather fond of this little knife, despite it's small size and poor heat treatment.
The pattern in the blade is so fine that I was unable to get the camera to capture it. One of the problems with making a many layered knife is that the patterning becomes more difficult to see. Which defeats half the point of layering steel.
I have found that the best compromise between complexity and visibility for damascus is around forty layers.
The length including the handle is about 4 inches.
