1. Open Chrome and sign in to your Google Account. Choose "Sites" from the Google Apps Icon or go to
https://sites.google.com. Click on "New Google sites" located three lines under the big red box that says "Create".
2. To add a new web site choose the red circle with the plus sign, or to open your existing "New" site click the image of your site.
3. For each brand new "New" website you must click on the words "Untitled Site" in the upper left corner of the screen and type in the name of your web site. Give your site a unique name that is school appropriate.
Never use any of these things: pornography, drugs, alcohol, violence, hatefulness, weapons, bullying, illegal activities. They are best avoided everywhere, but especially in school.
4. Click on the words "Your page title" in the the middle of the screen and type in the same name that you just used for your web site.
In some instances you may want to only display an image without words.
NOTE: You may name the page something like Home Page, but that is kinda boring.
5. Click the large blue button that has the word PUBLISH in large white letters near the top of the screen. You must create/choose an address/URL the first time you publish.
Type in the name you wish to be your site address. Just the name. Do not use dot com or dot org. Google will put their address in front of your web address, as shown live just below where you are typing. Spaces will be replaced by dashes. To avoid dashes just type your desired address as one long word without spaces.
6. Choose a theme for your site after you have added a few titles, headings, subheadings and normal fonts. All four of these font types MAY change in some of the themes. For instance, this heading font type turns purple with this Simple theme.
7. Add a new page for your Google Map and embed a Google Map you have already created. The map used must be made public from within your Google Maps app. Put a title on the page and explain what it is.
It can be a map to your favorite restaurants, or places you want to visit on vacation, or the place you were born or someplace important to you. Do not put current personal information on the web. Remember that there are creeps and thieves out there.
8. Add a new page for your Google Calendar and embed a Google Calendar you have already created. The calendar used must be made public from within Google Calendars app. Put a title on the page and explain what it is.
It can be a calendar of events related to the topic of your web site, or dates of sales or get togethers, or performances, etc. Do not put current personal information on the web. Again, remember that there are creeps and thieves out there.
9. Add an image of your own to any page.
Go wild, add lots of images, just keep the pages pleasing and not a mess. Make sure everything is easy to see and read.
10. Embed at least one URL link from some public web page.
Add a note about why you have the link on your web site.
11. Click the PUBLISH button to save all your work to the web.
12. Check every page to be sure that everything on the page looks like it belongs on your web site.
13. Final Checks: Copy the full address of your page from the "Publish Settings" and email the link to your own phone. If you do not have a phone, email it to someone with a phone. Using the phone without signing in, check all the pages as if you were some stranger seeing it for the first time.
Go back and make changes and adjustments as necessary.
You may also check the page using any tablet or computer that connects to the Internet. For all final checks, do NOT sign in.
You may add music, or any Google document including stories, poems, lyrics, slides, spread sheets, forms, charts, graphs. You may add photos and illustrations, or photo pages you created in Adobe Photoshop, just "Save as for Web" before you upload them. You may add videos you edited on Adobe Premiere, just upload them to YouTube then embed the link.
