Last updated: 2026-10-17
This privacy policy applies to the mobile app "Shade Try" for Android:
- Google Play: package com.simonj.makeuptry, developer "Global Utility App Maker"
The app is developed and operated by Kyu-Hee Jang (Google Play developer name: Global Utility App Maker).

OVERVIEW
Shade Try does not require an account, and we do not sell personal information. You take a selfie or choose a face photo, try lipstick, blush, eyeshadow and liner colours on it as layers, save looks, compare them and export images. Your photos and looks are kept in the app's storage on your device. The app also uses Google services and an advertising mediation partner for analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration, and advertising.
FACE PHOTOS AND FACE POINTS
When you tap to take a selfie, the app asks for camera permission (the first time) and opens the camera; when you choose a photo, the Android photo picker opens and only the photo you choose is given to the app. If you deny camera permission, you can still choose a photo. The app makes a resized working copy of the photo (up to 2048 pixels on the long side) in its cache and removes the camera or picker copy from its cache. It then finds the face outline and face points (a face mesh of up to two faces) with Google ML Kit face mesh detection, which runs on your device with a model built into the app. The colours are drawn on the photo on your device; your face shape is not changed. The app does not upload your photos or face points. Google ML Kit may send Google technical information about how the detection feature performs and is used (such as device, app and performance details); it does not send your photos.
If you leave the editor without saving, the working copy is deleted; any working copy left in the cache is also removed the next time the app starts.
INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
When you save a look, the app keeps a copy of the photo (the resized working copy), its face points, its size, a checksum and the time it was added, together with the look: which face is used, the colour layers (product, shade or custom colour, intensity and finish), any touch-up brush strokes, the creation and update times, and a small thumbnail image. Several looks can use the same photo. There is no fixed limit on the number of looks. If a saved look cannot be read, the app leaves it untouched and keeps its photo.
The app may also store basic operating information such as whether the first-use tips were shown, a count of completed exports, a count of app sessions and review-request progress, cached advertising settings and a cached More Apps list.
The developer does not run a server that receives your photos or looks. The app reads developer-controlled advertising settings and a More Apps list from Google Cloud Firestore, but it does not upload your photos, face points or looks. When you open the developer's other apps in Settings, app icons are loaded from the web addresses in that list.
ANALYTICS, CRASH REPORTING, AND ADS
Google Firebase Analytics may process limited app-usage and technical information, such as app launches and app sessions; starting a try-on (camera or photo) and where it was cancelled; camera permission results; face detection results (success or error type, number of faces found and whether the face is turned away); switching faces; choosing a product, applying or removing a shade (product, custom colour or not, finish), intensity and finish changes, touch-up strokes (product, mode and brush size) and the split view; saving a look (number of layers, touch-up used, saved as new); deleting looks (a count range); opening the comparison view (number of looks); export results (single or comparison, an image-size range, failure reason); review requests; ad revenue events (ad format, value, currency and precision); app version, device type, and app-instance identifiers. These events do not include photos, face points or the colour values you chose.
Google Firebase Crashlytics may process crash reports and related technical information needed to diagnose app problems.
The app shows ads through Google AdMob. A banner may appear at the bottom of the Looks list. Full-screen ads may appear when the app opens or returns to the foreground, and occasionally when you return to the Looks list after an export (never after your first export). The app does not start a full-screen ad when it returns to the foreground while the editor or comparison screen is open. AdMob may also request ads from the InMobi mediation network. Google and InMobi may process advertising identifiers and device, app, consent, network, and ad-performance information to provide and measure ads, and may use an IP address to estimate an approximate location even though the app has no location permission.
PERMISSIONS AND ADVERTISING CHOICES
Apart from the camera described above, the app does not request microphone, location, contacts, photos and videos, Bluetooth, health data, or notification permissions. It uses internet access and the Android advertising ID permission for the services above, and vibration for short haptic feedback.
When the app starts, Google's consent message (UMP) is checked first. Where consent is required (for example in the EEA and UK), personalized advertising stays off unless your choice allows it, and if the consent result does not allow ad requests, the app does not request ads. If the consent message cannot be loaded, the app still requests non-personalized ads, personalized advertising stays off, and "Privacy choices" is not shown until the app is started again. Where Google requires it, Settings shows "Privacy choices", which reopens the consent message so you can change your advertising choice. The app works whatever you choose.
STORAGE AND YOUR CONTROL
You can delete a look from the Looks list; "Undo" is available for about 5 seconds. Deleting a look removes its record and thumbnail; when it was the last look using its photo, the photo copy and its face points are removed too (while any saved look cannot be read, photo copies are kept). "Delete all looks and photos" in Settings removes the files in the app's look and photo folders after a confirmation. You can also clear the app's data in Android settings or delete the app.
The app is configured to opt out of Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer for its data, so photos and looks are not included in Android's automatic backup of this app.
Exported images are written to the app's cache and sent through the system share sheet to a destination you choose. When the app starts, it removes exported files once they are more than 24 hours old; files whose age it cannot check may be kept. The app does not delete copies you shared elsewhere.
Because we do not receive your photos or looks, we cannot delete them for you; the controls above remove them from the app. For questions about data processed by Google or InMobi, or to ask us for help with a privacy request, contact us at the address below.
Data processed by third parties is retained according to their service settings and policies. We use these services under their applicable terms, and we ensure that third-party service providers with whom we share user data provide the same or equal protection of that data as stated in this policy.

SECURITY
Your photo copies, face points, looks and cache files are kept in the app's private storage on your device, which the operating system protects from other apps; they are not separately encrypted by the app, so protect your device with a screen lock. Apart from the limited analytics events described above, the app does not upload your saved data. Communication between the app and Google services and the ad mediation partner uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we limit what the app collects to what is described in this policy.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Colours on screen are a preview and can look different from real products because of lighting, camera and display; they are not product, skin-care or medical advice. Use only photos of yourself or of people who agreed to it.
CHILDREN
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
CHANGES
We may update this policy if the app or its services change. The date above shows the latest revision.
