Maker Camp CH 2021

Four weeks of summertime Maker Fun for rising 3rd-7th graders. Maker Camp CH is a process based arts and making summer camp led by two certified Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools teachers. Small class sizes and experienced instructors will help your child's creativity flourish! Morning and afternoon courses are designed to complement one another and create a full day of engaging, inventive making.

Morning Session (9am - Noon): Un-making Machines

Take apart machines and appliances to discover what’s inside! Students collaborate to create a new invention from the parts. Safety googles and gloves supplied.

Afternoon Session (1pm - 4pm): Maker Time

What have you always wanted to create? It's a maker free-for-all as we learn various construction techniques and experiment with materials to create original inventions of all kinds.

Morning Session (9am - Noon): Everybody Loves Puppets!

Create puppets in a variety of styles and materials. Including stick, spoon, papier mache, and an awesome shadow-puppet disco party!

Afternoon Session (1pm - 4pm): Textile Art

Sewing, weaving, crochet, solar prints, and textile design: join us for a week of all things fabric. We’ll produce some wearables, home decor, wall hangings, and stitchery.

Morning Session (9am - Noon): Drawing

Hone your artistic skills in drawing with a variety of media and experimenting with different styles. Campers will work on group projects and have lots of time to explore individual drawing projects.

Afternoon Session (1pm - 4pm): Painting

Wear your messy clothes, because the paint will fly! We’ll explore composition, color theory, and process over product in this week of camp. Campers will work in watercolor and acrylic in both small and large formats. We’ll work on individual projects and one large collaborative masterpiece.

Morning Session (9am - Noon): Cardboard Challenge!

Cardboard is the lumber of our camp maker space. We’ll learn the basics of 3-D construction using this ubiquitous material. Campers will have daily design challenges and plenty of cardboard, tape and support to make amazing creations happen.

Afternoon Session (1pm - 4pm): Art Journaling

Creative self-expression through 2-D art and words. Campers will learn a variety of paper decorating and design techniques and spend the week working on a one of a kind journal they can continue to use for years.
