Architect Mark Caillo McCarter founded Makakita Architecture Studio, PLLC and is dedicated to delivering meaningful, human-centered solutions framed in building with sensibility — to enrich our lives through a balanced design approach.

With over 25 years of architectural design work across a range of private and public project types, Mark brings a steady passion and strong ethic to help others see their visions come alive. He utilizes both hand drawing and digital tools to explore ideas in all phases of design and construction. Basic services are tailored to client needs from early concept design studies and cost opinions to the development of technical documents for bidding, permitting and construction.

PERSONAL JOURNEY

Originally from Manila, Philippines, Mark immigrated to the United States through family adoption, eventually settling in Washington State after brief stays in Oklahoma, Guam, and Hawaii. While his parents laid the foundation for creativity, it was their sense of purpose that most shaped how he relates to people and places.

As a high school senior, he worked as a hand-draftsman for a local architect and quickly realized his love of drawing and design could serve others. After two years at nearby Olympic College in Bremerton, he moved to Seattle to complete undergraduate studies at the University of Washington. He then gained additional practical experience while saving money to return to the Philippines with his Mother where they traveled between cities and farms. The experience initiated a concern for rural farming villages which helped focus a return to school for a Master of Architecture degree.

Beyond his architectural pursuits, Mark finds added balance whether cycling, kayaking, fma training, cooking, or cheering on local sports teams — all while enjoying time with family and friends.
