As you scroll through this website, you can learn more about general components of the DEx, as well as the specifics of my own project.
Maire is a third year doctor of occupational therapy student at Western New England University (WNEU). She is working on her Doctoral Experiential project and graduating in May of 2022. Maire graduated from Assumption College in 2019 where she double majored in Spanish and Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies with a concentration in Occupational Therapy.
In Fall 2021 she completed her first Level 2 Fieldwork placement at Chrysalis Center in Hartford, CT. In this placement, she gained knowledge about diverse populations including individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and significant mental health diagnoses. In Spring 2022, she completed her second Level 2 Fieldwork placement at Windsor Locks Public Schools where she worked to support learners from ages 3 to 22 years old in the school setting.
Maire has always had a passion for working with and advocating for inclusion of individuals with intellectual disabilities. During her time at Assumption, she served as Chapter President of Best Buddies which is an organization that promotes inclusion through fostering one to one friendships for individuals of all abilities. She is so excited to be working on this DEx project and cannot wait to collaborate with her DEx group, site mentor, and DEx mentor to continue this project.
"Pi Theta Epsilon (PTE) is a specialized honor society for occupational therapy students and alumni. Its mission is to promote research and scholarship among occupational therapy students. PTE recognizes and encourages superior scholarship among students enrolled in accredited educational programs across the United States."
Members of PTE worked collaboratively to develop a Mental Health Toolkit. This toolkit was created to provide high school students and adolescents with resources, activities, and informational videos addressing mental health and promoting positive coping strategies.
