Maira Emy Reimão

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and the Global Research Fellow at the Moran Center for Global Leadership, both at the Villanova School of Business, Villanova University

For the 2022/23 and 2023/24 academic years, I am also a Visiting Faculty Member with the Center for Peace and Justice Education (CPJE) at Villanova University.

My research is primarily on development economics, and my interests include migration, gender, and labor.

My recent work has focused on seasonal migration and a series of randomized control trials (RCTs) offering subsidies to encourage domestic migration in Bangladesh. In this line of research, I am particularly interested in the effect of temporary migration on beliefs and social norms, as well as its relationship to permanent migration and urbanization.

My other main topics of research include childcare and other policies aimed at increasing female labor force participation; migration and those who stay behind; and measurements of empowerment and agency.
