Manufacturing of a Chess Board

This is the first larger scale manufacturing project I participated. 

Introduction

This project is a Manufacturing project done by using three main manufacturing processes,

• Woodworking

• Machining 

• Sheet Metal Forming

The board has two main parts,

• The playing board

• Compartment dedicated to storing pieces

The body of the board is mainly designed with wood and finished using lacquer. The chess pieces were made using machining processes. The squares of the board and the compartment partitioning was done using sheet metal forming.

Learning Outcomes

• Familiarizing with the above manufacturing processes.

• Familiarizing with how to operate and handle work tools and machines with correct technique and precision.

• Familiarizing with workshop safety principles and their importance.

• Familiarizing with finishing processes.
