Back then, I bought OG 2018 and all MGMAT books + Magoosh Premium subscription. Didn't use either of them much but apart from the standard OG, MGMAT books and Magoosh were really popular! Almost every thread talked about these two resources - in fact, some Magoosh study plans include MGMAT books.

This is the holy grail of prep. If you can only buy one book, this is it. The tone of voice may not be as friendly as the other books on the market. But if you can bear the dry content, you are getting by far the best practice since ETS writes the questions for the test.

The main book (Vibrant Supreme) has 145 example essays. The other two (labeled Book 1 and Book 2) are that same content, just split into two books. Their explanations are a little robotic and clinical, but they are thorough and clear. Some sample essays seemed a little more complex than they needed to be, but they would still be good for practice.

Vibrant breaks down pre-writing steps well with plenty of examples of how to break down a topic. One area where these books could improve is to give more information about scoring, including examples of essays that would receive other scores than a 6. Still, this book would be helpful to students who struggle with writing or are not comfortable writing in academic English.

I somewhat like the Princeton Review books for their big-picture strategies. These strategies are mostly absent from the Official Guide (though we share similar strategies in the Magoosh GRE eBook and on the blog). The content are a little generic and could apply to most standardized tests rather than the GRE specifically. However, if you are feeling lost with test prep in general and could use some review of basic skills like interpreting questions and using process of elimination, this could be a helpful resource. There are many different editions of Princeton Review books with slightly different amounts of content and prices, which gives you some flexibility about which one to go for.

Notice that The Official Guide to the GRE Revised General Test, 2nd Edition has a newer edition (3rd edition). Would you recommend that over the 2nd? Also, given that there are so many books, which are the few materials you think I can just focus on to get the best out of it. Say just getting the The Official Guide to the GRE Revised General Test and magoosh prep?

As many books of GRE offer a wide gamut of questions on verbal but do not actually match and hone in on the level of verbal questions that appear on the actual GRE, could you kindly recommend the best books that reflect our true GRE verbal potential and thereby help in getting a higher verbal score on the actual GRE? Thanks in advance.

Besides, I got a book of manhatan and I think that their text completion and equivalency words are pretty higher level. I am confued. What should I do? I also will buy magoosh onlline resourse and whant your idea?

Greetings from Zimbabwe! Firstly, I want to thank you for this great website and for the advice that your generously share to many people. I have a quick question. In Zimbabwe the GRE is paper based. Do you have any recommendations on the best GRE prep books to use to prepare for the paper based test? I am particularly interested in the Practice tests as I have noted that most reviews and resources pertain to the other GRE computer adaptive tests. Your responses will be much appreciated.

So what are your thoughts on this? Should i just start off right away from

magoosh resources or should i refer to much easier sources such as Kaplan

and then make a transition to magoosh?? Please provide your

suggestion,since I am a kinda confused!

So the Magoosh subscription should answer many of your questions. As for books, the ones I mention in this post are the ones you should use. The Magoosh ebooks, which are free, will give you a lot of structure (they are at the top of the page). After reading these, if you still confused about how to prepare, and can tell me what you are specifically confused about, I would love to help :).

Hi Chris,

I find your recommendations for effective GRE preparation and reviews on books quite helpful. In your recommendation you have mentioned LSAT guides too so when you say LSAT books, which book are you actually referring to and how can I use those LSAT books for better GRE preparation.

Hi Chris,

Its been a while since I purchased the Magoosh GRE (Verbal) subscription, but could not get time to prepare at all.

Now, that I am willing to start my preparations, I would like to ask about what books are best for the Verbal section. I have not currently purchased any of the book and is bit confused about what books should I refer to for my verbal preparations. I have one and half months to prepare for the Verbal section and can devote around 6-7 hours (or may be more) a day for my preparation. I need to score atleast 165 in the verbal section.

I am better in quantitative than verbal and i would really appreciate a systematic guide to ace the test and the required resources. I am not too worried about the cost of the required books for the test.

For quant all i believe in my instincts and working on ETS guide anything else that you can recommend for that. I know it is rather less time to cover all the portion and books but any book that i must race through as mandate/imp before i give my exam

I have about 45 days to the GRE, I have completed the MGRE Math books barring the Quant comparison book. I have also completed the Magoosh ebook(English words) and Math questions pertaining to the MGRE books.

I think a good place to start with the GRE is our ebooks. They are filled with useful information on how to get started, including useful study plans (including a 3-month study plan). Hope those are helpful :).

Never fear! Here are our recommended best GMAT prep books. The table gives a brief overview, but you can also scroll down for more in-depth reviews, as well as our summary of the best free GMAT study resources out there!

The Manhattan series consists of the following (click each link for a full Magoosh book review). Keep in mind that Quant and Verbal were books 1-5 and 6-8 respectively before the 7th edition grouped them together as units into the new All the Quant and All the Verbal books.

Over the years, the Magoosh team has logged hundreds of hours purchasing and researching dozens of GMAT books. In this article, we review five GMAT books and several additional resources, including material from GMAC, Manhattan GMAT, Nova, and Powerscore. Your prep starts and stops with the material above.

The three official TOEFL books are all very close to each other in ranking, but the best of the three for cheap, authentic practice tests is this book. And this book really does focus just on practice tests. There are no extra practice questions, and no supplemental chapters that give extra information about the tests. To learn more about why the official practice tests here are even better than the official prep in the other two ETS TOEFL books, check out my full review of Official TOEFL iBT Tests, Volume 2, Third Edition.

This book is from McGraw Hill. As a publishing company, McGraw Hill puts out the official TOEFL books; as an educational company, they also make and publish unofficial TOEFL resources of their own. How good is this unofficial resource from the publisher of the official books? Read a quick summary of the review in the table below:

I also strongly recommend including the TOEFL Official Guide and other official TOEFL books and materials from ETS, including the free-of-charge, web-hosted, and very student-friendly TOEFL Quick Prep. Hope this helps!

We do not sell these books or send them to students! This blog post is just meant to help students decide which books to buy in order to prepare for the TOEFL test. You will see links to many of these books on Amazon.com, and you can buy many books there. I recommend that you search for a seller in your area ? Good luck!

In your case, I would definitely recommend the official ETS TOEFL books above all others. These books are not necessarily the best when it comes to English learning strategies or boosting overall English proficiency. What they are focused on is how to fully master and understand the test and its format. And you really could do well focusing primarily on test skills and not English skills. After 10 years in America, you no doubt have a very strong foundation of English ability. The ETS books will help you channel your existing English skills in test-specific ways. ?

I recommend that you try to find a language partner. There exists many places, where you can introduce yourself and needs. I needed help to prepare for my exam in German. I found a language partner from Germany. He was a few years younger than me, but it was no problem. He taught me German in a few weeks. You can try to do the same thing. Otherwise, the books above will definitely help you. Reading books is a great exercise or watching English movies without subtitles.

Hi Muhadisa! You can see in our study plans (for example, the one-month plan: -month-toefl-study-schedule/) that we recommend the Official Guide 4th edition and the Magoosh course. That should be enough for your prep. The other books that we list in our book reviews guide are great if you need additional material ? e24fc04721
