I am from Peru. I graduated from "Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú" with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting and I graduated from "Universidad del Pacífico" with a Masters Degree in Business Administration. I worked for private companies and governmental agencies in my country.
When I married my husband, I relocated from Peru to the USA. I did volunteer work in elementary schools. Later, I had the opportunity to work as an educational assistant.
I witnessed the academic struggles of our students who spoke another language at home, but not English. They were eager to learn but they needed support with the English academic language. As an immigrant, who learned to speak English when I relocated to my new country, these students and their families motivated me to pursue a teaching career.
I graduated from Portland State University with a Masters in Education. I also graduated from the Dual Language Specialization Program at Oregon State University. This is my ninth year as a teacher. I have taught 1st grade for 2 years and this is my seventh year teaching kindergarten. I want to help my students to become successful learners and good citizens of our world. I want them to feel proud of being bilingual and bicultural and appreciate not only the richness of their family’s culture, language and heritage, but also the culture, traditions and heritage of the other members of our community.
During my free time, I love to ...
be with my family and friends,
bike,
swim and go to the beach.
I like ...
dancing,
singing and playing "el cajón,"
and traveling to new places to learn about their people, culture and history.
