ATTENDANCE. Please, have your child arrive at school on time to have enough time for breakfast in the cafeteria. Buses and family drop off starts at 7:45 a.m. Students enter the classroom at 8 am. If there is a situation that prevents your child from arriving at school on time, please let us know. We are here to help you and your child.
STUDENTS' PICK-UP. School ends at 2:30 p.m. For safety reasons, if your child is a bus rider and for any other reason you decide that your child will not ride the bus on a certain day, please let the office and teachers know about your decision and the person who will come to pick up your child. If your child is a walker, let the office and teachers know weather a different person will come to pick up your child.
RED COMMUNICATION FOLDER. It is a system that we use to send school wide communication home such as flyers about events, letters from administration and the teachers, PTA communication and homework. Please look for this folder in your child's backpack, empty the folder, and return any form that needs to be given to the teachers or the school. EVERY DAY, this folder must be in your child's backpack.
HOMEWORK. It will go home every Friday in the red communication folder. The purpose of homework is to help your child practice his/her reading, writing and math at home. It is expected that parents help their child with homework. It only takes 15 minutes. Return homework next Thursday in the red communication folder. Homework won’t be graded nor returned. We will know if your child has been practicing at home when we assess his/her progress every week.
TOYS. Please, restrain your child from bringing any kind of toys, cards, bracelets, and lip balms. They distract from student learning in the classroom. Students who bring toys to the classroom will be warned to put their toy in their backpack. If there is a second warning, the toy will be taken and the parent will be called. If there is a third warning, the toy will be taken and put in the prize box for rewarding other students.
BUBBLE GUM AND CANDY. Please, let your child know and check that your child is not bringing bubble gum and candy to the school. If students share candy with others in the classroom, it will cause disruptions and distractions from learning. As a school, we are in favor of providing healthy snacks for our students.
LOST AND FOUND. Please label your child's personal belongings with his or her first and last name. Items found on school campus will be placed in the school's Lost and Found.
CLOTHES. Please, make sure your child wears appropriate clothing for activity. Consider wearing shorts or pants underneath skirts and dresses, a t-shirt underneath strappy tops that have a tendency to slip off the shoulder, and shoes rather than flip-flops especially on days with PE. Students will be going outside for recess, so make sure they are dressed appropriately for the weather.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. We will celebrate the birthdays of the month on the last Friday of that month in our classroom. Your child is welcome to bring store-bough items such as cupcakes, cookies, chips and popcorn to share with the whole class.
BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS. We are a community of learners. Students will learn how to help themselves and others to learn and conduct in a responsible, respectful and safe way. Disruptions and distractions take precious time from learning. This is the behavior plan and consequences:
1st Disruption – Warning/Reteach the expected behavior.
2nd Disruption – Warning/Reteach the expected behavior.
3rd Disruption – Time out in the classroom (5 minutes in the Peace Corner; restore of justice; loss of privilege, conversation with a couch and call parent).
4th Disruption – Time out outside the classroom; conversation with teacher, coach and call parent.
CONTACT INFORMATION. The school must have a way to reach you in case of emergency. Tell the office immediately about changes of phone numbers, addresses, and emergency contact persons.
