5 Obstructions: Kurt and Courtney the Lovers.

The five obstructions project was a piece meant to test the boundries and challenge the artist with five specific challenges exclusive to each artist, this piece was done on a 16x20 canvas my five obstructions included 1.) redo the painting in monochromatic pallet. 2.) use only geometric shapes 3.) remove facial features. 4.) redo the paintimg use found objects. and 5.) redo the painting in a lineless style.

here is the original painting that was obstructed in the 5 obstructions project orginal piece was done on 18x24 mixed media paper and painted using primary colors only and inspired by a photoshoot done by Kurt Cobain and Courtney love in the early 1990's after their marriage.

"Creation to Cessation"

A sculptural representation of life and death and how the cycle of life and death can be a peaceful process personified by a tree with both living and deceased elements. sculpture was created using a mix of paper Mache and real branches faux flowers were attached to one side of the tree to represent youth and thriving and the opposite side represents death and dying (the absence of life). to add in a human element portraits were created to represent the life of a women from young to elderly. also included were some bones sculpture was placed over a bed of grass to complete a more real deal feel and give it it's own sense of atmosphere.

images were painted in order of age and by size the smallest painting is size 8x10 inches and depicts a young girl in adolescence full of life and color in her cheeks .


the second painting the medium size 12x14 inches depicts the same girl but now as a middle aged woman just beyond the prime of life her hair is beginning to gray and she is becoming tired.


the final painting size 16x20 inches depicts the end of the woman's life as she lay in death's embrace a white sheet cover's her body a symbol of mourning and purity in death.
