Soul of Chinatown's "Made in Chinatown" project uplifts the talent of Asian-Australian artists by creating bespoke, limited edition and locally-made products, featuring their work which celebrates Sydney's Chinatown. All proceeds will go towards future projects to preserve and celebrate Chinatown, including Soul of Chinatown's "Rice Fund" initiative.
Shirley Zhuo (@drawnbyshirley)
Shirley Zhuo (@drawnbyshirley) is an illustrator from Sydney, Australia. Her work is inspired by her Chinese-Australian heritage. She illustrates bright, colourful, slice of life moments, celebrating the places, people and food around her.
Chinatown to Shirley is the memories; the "warmth and smells of food from my childhood. It was the place where my parents made their start in Sydney." She feels that the heart and soul of Chinatown are the people who made it their community over generations.
The collection celebrates places in Chinatown, highlighting iconic establishments and hidden gems, where she is hopeful that our Chinatown continues to thrive in its rich diversity.

Soul of Chinatown is a community organisation that aims to bring the glory back to Sydney’s Chinatown through advocacy, storytelling and community. We believe the creative arts will play a key role in reinvigorating the area - that’s why we’re passionate to work with local Asian-Australian artists to spotlight the precinct. This “Made in Chinatown” postcard project was spearheaded by one of our volunteers Jen Ng, who was the project manager from conception to delivery.
