If you want a complete, heavy-duty winch solution built for the grueling demands of tire maintenance and deep mud recovery on your Can-Am Outlander, choose Mad Dog Products 3500; if you need a direct-fit, high-strength aftermarket replacement component to upgrade an existing Factor 55 SH system on your ATV or UTV, choose SupplyMount 00070-07.
These two products sit in completely different categories of the off-road ecosystem. One is a full-power unit designed to pull your vehicle out when it is stuck fast, while the other is a specialized accessory designed to enhance the connection point of a winch that already exists. Confusing them leads to wrong purchases, so understanding their distinct roles is the first step before you spend a dime.
• Mad Dog Products 3500: Its biggest strength is being a complete, self-contained winch system with triple steel planetary gears and water-resistant seals, making it ideal for heavy pulling tasks. Its trade-off is that it requires a full installation process and specific mounting compatibility with Can-Am Outlander models from 2012 to 2024. This pick is for riders who need a primary recovery tool for hunting, farming, or plowing hard terrain.
• SupplyMount 00070-07: Its biggest strength is its precise engineering as a flatlink replacement component that fits standard SH-style shackles without modification, offering reliable long-term performance. Its trade-off is that it is not a winch itself but rather a connector part that requires an existing winch to function. This pick is for owners who already have a winch but want a more durable or compatible link for their recovery gear.
• Who should buy which?: Buy the Mad Dog if you are starting from scratch and need to get unstuck. Buy the SupplyMount if you are upgrading the hardware on a winch you already own.
If you own a Can-Am Outlander 570, 650, 800, 850 MAX, XMR, or a 6x6 model manufactured between 2012 and 2024, this unit is designed to bolt directly into your frame. It is not a generic add-on; it is a comprehensive solution that integrates the motor, solenoid, and clutch into a single package tailored for these machines.
What sets this unit apart for serious tire maintenance and trail work is its internal durability. The manufacturer specifies a triple steel planetary gear system, which is critical when you are under load. Gears strip easily under high torque, but three sets of steel gears provide the mechanical advantage needed to drag a heavy UTV out of a deep rut. Coupled with a 171:1 gear ratio, this setup ensures that even if your engine is struggling, the winch has the leverage to move the mass. The inclusion of a heavy-duty all-metal turn clutch further reinforces this, ensuring that the line spools smoothly without slipping when you need maximum power.

Water resistance is another non-negotiable feature for anyone working in wet conditions. The Mad Dog 3500 features water-resistant seals specifically on the motor and solenoid. In the field, mud splashes, rain falls, and you might be wading through shallow creeks. These seals keep the electrical components dry, preventing short circuits that would leave you stranded. The unit comes with a 3/16" x 50' steel wire rope, providing ample length to reach obstacles or trees far away. If you hunt hard, farm hard, or plow hard, this is the machine built to withstand the abuse of daily labor. The limited lifetime warranty on the motor and electrical components speaks to the confidence in its build quality. However, you must ensure your vehicle matches the listed years and models, as the 4-hole mounting design is specific to the chassis geometry of those Can-Am units.
The SupplyMount 00070-07 serves a very different role in the off-road world. It is not a winch; it is a replacement component designed specifically for Flatlink XTV systems that are compatible with the Factor 55 SH shackle interface. If you already have a winch installed on your ATV or UTV and you are looking to replace a worn-out link or upgrade your connection point, this is the part you need. It is an aftermarket solution meant to integrate seamlessly with existing setups, offering a direct fit that eliminates the guesswork often associated with third-party accessories.
Durability is the primary selling point here, as it is manufactured with quality materials engineered to resist wear in demanding automotive applications. When you are hooking up a winch line to a tree strap or a recovery point, the hardware connecting them is under immense stress. A failure here can be dangerous. SupplyMount focuses on delivering consistent operation across a wide range of driving conditions by meeting industry-standard specifications. This means the dimensions and tolerances are precise enough to handle the load without deforming or failing unexpectedly.
Installation is streamlined for efficiency, aiming to reduce downtime during a recovery situation. The design prioritizes a straightforward installation process, though professional installation is recommended to ensure proper fitment and function. You must verify the part number match with your vehicle's specifications before purchasing, as it is designed for specific compatibility. This product is for the rider who understands that their winch is only as good as the weakest link in the chain. If your current shackle or link is worn, rusted, or incompatible with your new strap system, the SupplyMount offers a reliable upgrade path. It is perfect for those who want to maintain their existing winch power but improve the safety and reliability of the attachment method.
• Best for Complete Recovery Power → Mad Dog Products 3500: If you lack a winch entirely, the Mad Dog provides the motor, gears, rope, and control mechanism needed to perform a rescue.
• Best for System Upgrade Only → SupplyMount 00070-07: If you have a functioning winch but need a better connection point, this part enhances your current setup without replacing the whole unit.
• Best for Precision Fitment → SupplyMount 00070-07: Designed as a direct replacement for Flatlink XTV systems, it ensures a tight, secure fit for specific shackle types.
• Best for Environmental Resistance → Mad Dog Products 3500: The water-resistant seals on the motor and solenoid make it superior for wet, muddy, or rainy recovery scenarios.
• Best for Ease of Integration → SupplyMount 00070-07: It reduces downtime by fitting directly into existing compatible systems, requiring no major modifications to the winch itself.
• Best for Long-Term Warranty Coverage → Mad Dog Products 3500: It includes a limited lifetime warranty on the core motor and electrical components, offering peace of mind for long-term use.
In my opinion, the choice between these two depends entirely on whether you need a new engine or just a new transmission part. If you are asking this question because your vehicle is currently stuck or you plan to tackle difficult terrain where tire maintenance is frequent, you absolutely need the Mad Dog Products 3500. It is the only option here that actually provides the pulling power required for real-world recovery. The triple steel gears and water seals are exactly what you need to survive the harsh conditions of hunting and farming. I would recommend the Mad Dog for anyone building their first serious recovery setup.
However, if you already have a winch and simply want to ensure your connection points are bulletproof, the SupplyMount 00070-07 is the smarter investment. It is a targeted solution for a specific problem that doesn't require buying a whole new machine. But for the general user seeking a reliable tool for tire maintenance and off-road survival, the Mad Dog 3500 is the clear winner. It offers the complete package of power, protection, and warranty that gives me the confidence to take it anywhere.
