For vlogging, Mack's Ear Seals are the clear winner because their detachable cord and superior water seal let you switch from studio noise to outdoor shoots without a hitch. If you need something softer for long recording sessions or sleeping between takes, the Pillow Soft Silicone putty is the ideal runner-up for its custom moldable comfort.
• Mack's Mack's Ear Seals — best for dual-purpose outdoor vlogging; pick this if you need a removable cord for quick access and a tight seal against wind or water spray.
• Mack's Pillow Soft Silicone — best for all-night rest between filming days; pick this if your priority is a non-toxic, waterproof putty that molds perfectly to your ear shape.
• Mack's Mack's Swimming Headband — best for securing gear during aquatic shoots; pick this if you need a neoprene band to keep earplugs in place while swimming or splashing.
• Mack's Soft Foam Earplugs — best for maximum silence in noisy environments; pick this if you require the highest noise reduction rating for deep focus or sleep.
• Mack's Mack's Dreamgirl Soft — best for creators with sensitive ears; pick this if you need smaller, ultra-soft foam plugs that fit snugly without pressure.
• Mack's Soft Moldable Silicone — best for children or specific medical needs; pick this if you need a small, kid-sized silicone option for preventing ear infections.
• Mack's Maximum Protection Soft — best for loud shooting sports or heavy machinery; pick this if you need 33 dB of protection in a low-pressure foam designed for larger canals.
• Mack's Ear Seals Dual — best for motorcyclists or glove users; pick this if you need a detachable cord to remove plugs easily while wearing thick riding gloves.
The Mack's Ear Seals are designed as a versatile, dual-purpose tool that bridges the gap between high-noise environments and water exposure. Their defining feature is the detachable cord, which allows you to quickly remove the earplugs without losing them—a critical function when you are on location, moving equipment, or switching between different soundscapes during a vlog production. The design focuses on creating an exceptional seal that blocks both noise and water, making it a robust choice for creators who work outdoors or near water sources.
In daily use, these earplugs shine when you need reliable protection that doesn't compromise on convenience. The ability to unclip the cord means you can take them off instantly if someone needs to speak to you directly, then re-seat them just as fast. This flexibility is invaluable when you are directing a scene or checking audio levels on set. The rubbery material provides a secure fit that stays put even during movement, ensuring your hearing remains protected from sudden loud noises like camera shutters or generator hums.
However, there is a trade-off to consider regarding the form factor. While they offer a robust seal, the design is slightly more substantial than simple foam plugs. For some users, this might feel less "invisible" inside the ear canal compared to other options. If you prefer a plug that feels like it disappears entirely, these might feel a bit more present. Still, for the specific combination of durability, water resistance, and the unique utility of the detachable cord, they remain a top-tier choice for active vloggers who cannot afford to lose their gear or deal with water intrusion.
These original moldable silicone putty earplugs represent a different approach to comfort and protection. Instead of expanding foam or rigid plastic, they rely on a soft, pliable material that you knead and shape to match the exact contours of your ear. This makes them particularly effective for sealing out water, which is why they are trusted by doctors for preventing swimmer's ear and are used by elite swimmers. For a vlogger who films in various weather conditions, this waterproof capability offers peace of mind when working near pools, lakes, or during unexpected rain.
The primary benefit here is the customized fit. Because the material molds to your unique anatomy, it creates a consistent seal that many find more comfortable for extended wear than standard foam. You can wear them for long periods while sleeping between filming schedules or while relaxing after a long day on set. They are also non-toxic and non-allergenic, adding a layer of safety for those with sensitive skin. The fact that they are made in the USA and have been a staple for decades speaks to their reliability and consistent quality.
The main limitation lies in the maintenance and longevity of the material. Unlike disposable foam plugs, these silicone putties can accumulate dirt and debris over time, requiring regular cleaning to maintain hygiene. Additionally, while they mold well, they do not offer the same level of passive compression as foam, meaning the noise reduction rating is slightly lower than the highest-rated foam options. If your primary goal is absolute silence in a chaotic environment, you might find the silicone offers a bit more background noise leakage compared to dense foam. However, for comfort, water protection, and a reusable solution, they are unmatched.
This neoprene headband serves a very specific purpose: it acts as a stabilizer for your ear protection during water activities. It is not an earplug itself but a crucial accessory that holds earplugs or custom molds firmly in place while you are swimming, surfing, or kayaking. The material is stretchy and durable, featuring an adjustable hook-and-loop closure that ensures a snug fit for various head sizes. It also helps keep hair out of your face, which is a practical bonus for anyone filming or working in windy, wet conditions.

For a vlogger who incorporates water sports into their content, this headband adds a necessary layer of security. Without it, earplugs can easily dislodge during vigorous activity, leaving your ears vulnerable to infection or water damage. The headband works in tandem with waterproof earplugs to create a double barrier, which is often recommended by doctors for individuals with ear tubes or a history of ear infections. It effectively prevents kids or adults from fussing with their protection, keeping the gear exactly where it belongs.
The trade-off is that this item is strictly an accessory. It does nothing on its own; you must purchase compatible earplugs separately to get any value from it. Furthermore, it is designed specifically for water environments and may be overkill or uncomfortable for dry land use. If you are only filming in studios or urban settings, this will likely sit unused in your kit. But for any shoot involving water, it transforms a potentially risky situation into a controlled, safe one.
When the environment is overwhelmingly loud, the Soft Foam Earplugs step up as the ultimate noise blockers. With a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 33 decibels, they offer some of the highest levels of protection available in a standard earplug form. The foam is engineered to be super low-pressure, meaning it expands slowly and gently to fill the ear canal without causing pain or pressure buildup. This makes them suitable for long-duration wear, whether you are trying to sleep in a noisy hotel room or focusing intently on editing footage in a bustling city center.
These earplugs come in a large quantity pack, which is practical for a creator who goes through gear frequently. The color is chosen to be easy on the eyes, and the foam texture is designed for user preference, offering a silky smooth feel. They are widely recognized for their effectiveness in blocking snoring, which is a common issue for travelers or people sharing living spaces during off-seasons. The packaging features a flip-open top, keeping the bulk of the earplugs clean and ready for immediate use.
The downside is that they are disposable. Once compressed and expanded in your ear, they eventually lose their elasticity and must be replaced. For a vlogger who travels constantly, this means a recurring cost and the need to manage waste. Additionally, while the foam is "ultra soft," some users with extremely sensitive ear canals might still find the insertion process intrusive compared to silicone putty. Despite this, for pure, high-performance noise isolation where silence is the only priority, these are hard to beat.
The Dreamgirl Soft line addresses a specific demographic often overlooked in the earplug market: those with smaller or more sensitive ear canals. These plugs are designed to be about 20% smaller than the standard versions, providing a more comfortable fit for people who find regular foam too bulky or painful. Despite the reduced size, they still deliver a high Noise Reduction Rating of 30 decibels, ensuring that you don't sacrifice protection for comfort. The material is described as softer and more contoured, catering to those who need a gentle touch.
A standout feature for mobile creators is the included premium aluminum travel case. This case attaches to keychains, belt loops, or backpacks, ensuring your earplugs are always clean, organized, and within reach. This portability is essential for vloggers who move from location to location and need their gear accessible without digging through a bag. The pink color scheme also adds a subtle aesthetic touch that appeals to users who prefer lighter tones.
The trade-off is that the smaller size might not provide as deep a seal for every individual as the standard size, though the NRR suggests it is still highly effective. Users with average or larger ear canals might find them less effective than the full-size version. Additionally, the inclusion of the travel case means the package contains fewer individual pairs compared to bulk packs of standard foam. However, for the right user, the combination of comfort, portability, and solid protection makes this a specialized favorite.
This product is a variation of the popular silicone putty, specifically sized for children or those needing a smaller profile. Like its adult counterpart, it molds to the unique contours of the ear, providing a comfortable and secure fit. It is highlighted as the official earplug brand of USA Swimming, emphasizing its role in preventing swimmer's ear infections. The bright orange color makes it easy for parents to spot if dropped, which is a practical safety feature for young users.
The primary advantage here is safety and ease of use for younger audiences or those with specific medical needs. It is safe for use with ear tubes and is recommended by doctors for preventing infections after surgery. The moldable nature ensures that even a child can achieve a good seal, which is crucial for protecting hearing during loud events or water activities. It is non-toxic and non-allergenic, offering a safe option for prolonged wear.
However, the smaller size limits its application to children aged six and under or those with very small ear canals. Adults will likely find them too small to create an adequate seal. The price point per pair might also be higher when buying a smaller pack compared to bulk options. If you are an adult vlogger looking for a personal solution, this specific size variant will not fit your needs, but it fills a vital niche for families and pediatric care.
Designed for extreme noise environments, these earplugs are built for hunters, shooters, and anyone exposed to dangerous sound levels. They boast the highest Noise Reduction Rating of 33 decibels, matching the performance of the standard soft foam but with a distinct advantage in comfort for larger ear canals. The foam is engineered to be low-pressure, reducing the feeling of "stuffiness" that often comes with high-decibel protection. This allows users to wear them for extended periods without discomfort, which is vital during long hunting trips or range sessions.
The included aluminum travel case is another premium feature, allowing you to attach the earplugs to your gear so they are never lost. The orange color ensures high visibility, so you can spot them easily on the ground or in a vehicle. They are made in the USA, reinforcing a commitment to quality and safety standards. The design specifically targets users who need maximum protection but struggle with the bulk of traditional high-NRR plugs.
The main drawback is the specificity of the use case. While they offer excellent protection, they are perhaps overkill for general travel or office use where a lower NRR would suffice. The larger size designed for bigger ear canals might feel loose or ineffective for those with smaller ears. If you are a casual listener or a vlogger filming in quiet environments, these might be unnecessary. But for anyone facing impulse noise or sustained loud machinery, they are a top-tier investment.
This product mirrors the functionality of the standard Ear Seals but comes in a multi-pack configuration, offering three pairs per box. The key feature remains the detachable cord, which is essential for users who wear gloves or helmets. Whether you are riding a motorcycle, operating power tools, or participating in motorsports, the cord allows you to remove the plugs without taking off your protective gear. This convenience saves time and reduces the risk of dropping the earplugs in hazardous environments.
The design focuses on versatility, making it suitable for a wide range of activities including swimming, concerts, and shooting sports. The shatterproof carrying case included in the package ensures the earplugs stay protected when not in use. The blue and yellow color scheme makes them easy to identify and locate. For a vlogger who documents action sports or DIY projects, having a reliable, corded pair that can withstand rough handling is invaluable.
The trade-off is similar to the single-pair version, with the added consideration of storage. While the case is durable, carrying three pairs requires a bit more space in your kit. Also, like the standard Ear Seals, the physical presence of the cord and the rubbery material might feel less discreet than foam. However, for the specific utility of easy removal and dual-purpose protection, this multi-pack offers great value and reliability for active lifestyles.

Our ranking reflects our independent editorial opinion based on design utility, material safety, and real-world applicability, with no brand paying for placement or influencing our selection.
Yes, most Mack's earplugs are designed to block external noise without interfering with your own voice if you are speaking nearby, but for recording, you generally want to remove them to hear your audio monitor clearly.
Yes, several models, particularly the silicone putty varieties, are explicitly recommended by doctors for use with ear tubes and for preventing infections after ear surgeries.
Foam earplugs are generally disposable and should be replaced once they become dirty, misshapen, or lose their ability to expand, whereas silicone putties can be cleaned and reused until they degrade.
While not always mandatory, using a case like the aluminum travel cases included with some models keeps your earplugs clean and prevents loss, which is especially helpful for busy creators on the go.
