Macaulay2
Logo Contest
Help shape our visual identity
Help shape our visual identity
This is an open contest to design a new logo for the Macaulay2 software system—a tool for research in algebraic geometry and commutative algebra. We invite designers, mathematicians, software users, and creative enthusiasts from around the world to share their ideas.
The selected logo will become part of the visual identity of Macaulay2 and may appear across a wide range of media. Beyond bragging rights, the winning designer will receive a gift worth $200 USD.
Originality. All submitted work must be the original creation of the entrant(s). Submissions must not include, be based on, or be derived from any preexisting or third-party designs, trademarks, or copyrighted images.
Ownership. The winning entry will become the property of the Macaulay2 Team. The winning designer agrees to waive any trademarks, and, without limitation, all other rights related to the design.
Modification. The Macaulay2 Team reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to modify the winning logo as needed for various applications.
File Format. The winning entry must be provided as a scalable vector file (or a high-resolution vector equivalent) to ensure quality reproduction at any size.
All entries must be submitted via the Google Form by Monday, 31 August, 2026.
Entries will be evaluated on their visual appeal, originality, and overall quality. Following consultation with the Macaulay2 community, the winning entry will be selected by David Eisenbud, Anton Leykin, Michael Stillman, and Doug Torrance.
Some suggestions are available at Adobe's Logo Guide, Apple Icon suggestions, and Canva design principles.
We are not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, or otherwise unusable entries, including those affected by computers, the internet, or other electronic problems.
All questions about the contest should be directed to Gregory G. Smith.
