Some Past Rifle & Pistol Events
Action Pistol Match - Saturday February 8, 2018
Feb. 3rd is the first Match of 2018 and it will be an exciting one. (Remember to check your email on match day for weather cancellations.)
We will have three stages or scenarios.
1. Steel Challenge which is steel only and a timed event which tests your accuracy and speed in shooting.
2. An IDPA stage which you may know stands for International Defensive Pistol Association. This is as close to practice for concealed carry as you can get. It is usually shot with guns you might carry EDC (Every Day Carry)
3. USPSA which is U.S. Pistol Shooting Ass'n. This discipline is more gamesmanship and traditionally is shot with expensive, fancy "race" guns.
Of course you can shoot any center-fire gun you want in our matches. If you have any questions about guns or equipment get back to me.
I also want to stress that while we call these events matches they are really friendly get togethers designed for fun, skill building, and practice. They are open to the public so you can bring a guest. Shooters must have basic skills and be able to handle a gun safely. Coaching and Training in Action Skills are available at IW. For 2018 all of these events will take place on the first Saturday of each month with sign in at 0900. Fees for this event are $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Exact change please, no checks.
I can't stress enough that you are welcome to come and join us to watch, try it out, and maybe become part of the Action Pistol Group. I'm so certain you will enjoy yourself if you don't we'll refund your fee. Can't do better than a money back guarantee.
You must register in advance by email to Joe Kincaid at firstname.lastname@example.org
If you have any questions contact me, Jeff Weiss at email@example.com
Please read the attached documents.
See you on Feb. 3rd at 0900
Action Pistol Match - Saturday January 6th, 2018
Plan for the January 6, 2018 Match since weather may be bad.
The event is open to all but because of space limitations will be limited to the first 25 who register with Joe Kincaid at firstname.lastname@example.org
The fee for the day is $10 for members and family and $15 for non-members. Please let Joe know immediately if you need to cancel your registration.
I strongly advise anyone who is shooting with us but has never attended a full day clinic, or who wants to get qualified to shoot action pistol events, to attend this event. We will cover the following subjects in the classroom and then proceed to the range to practice what is learned.
Please be at the clubhouse at 0830 to sign up. The event will start at 0900 with presentations and an opportunity to DRY FIRE practice what you learn. If the weather permits, we will move to the range around 1300 to practice with live fire till around 1500. If the weather is bad, we will continue to drill in the classroom. Of special note will be the introduction of Pistol Caliber Carbines which are only allowed on the pistol range at official matches or practices with a Match Director present.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE DO NOT BRING ANY FIREARMS OR AMMUNITION INTO THE CLASSROOM. A STAFF MEMBER WILL CLEAR ONE SIDEARM AND ONE SEMI-AUTO RIFLE (IF YOU BRING ONE) AND TWO MAGAZINES PER GUN AT YOUR VEHICLE. YOU MAY WEAR YOUR HOLSTER, BELT AND MAGAZINE HOLDER INTO THE CLASSROOM BUT ALL GUNS AND MAGAZINES MUST BE IN A CONTAINER OF SOME KIND. ONCE THE CLASS IS ASSEMBLED ALL FIREARMS AND MAGAZINES WILL BE CHECKED AGAIN BY A STAFF MEMBER AS YOU REMOVE THEM FROM THE CONTAINER. NO CONCEALED CARRY WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM.
ONCE YOUR SIDEARM IS UNCASED AND CLEARED IN THE CLASSROOM YOU WILL HOLSTER IT. DO NOT REMOVE IT FROM YOUR HOLSTER FOR ANY REASON UNLESS DIRECTED TO DO SO BY AN RSO. LONG GUNS MUST HAVE A CHAMBER FLAG INSERTED AT ALL TIMES UNLESS YOU ARE TOLD TO REMOVE IT BY AN RSO. (A SHORT PIECE OF WEEDWACKER STRING MAKES A GOOD FLAG.)
IF YOU THINK ALL THIS CHECKING IS NONSENSE GOOGLE “ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE DURING INSTRUCTION.”

Action Pistol Match - Saturday December 2nd, 2017
Get out your long johns and come out to our match on Dec. 2. We’ll start set up at around 900 and shooting at 1000. Tony, Rex, and some other hardy souls will probably be there earlier so help is appreciated. Our last match started cooooold, but by mid-day we were working in shirts. We also had a propane radiant heater to warm hands and it worked great, thanks to Eb Downey. (Eb, now you have to make the next match, we need that heater.)
Contact Joe Kincaid at email@example.com to register. As usual contact me, at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
If you have a Pistol Caliber Carbine bring it and if you don’t you are welcome to use the mine and Tony’s and probably anybody else who brings one. Bring factory ammo (9MM, any weight) for borrowed guns or agree if you blow it up with your reloads you bought it. We will even consider lost cowboys who want to use their lever guns but no single actions Army’s. Gotta have a modern gun (except for 1911’s) for action shooting.
I want to remind everybody that all rifles firing rifle rounds (including .223 or 5.56) must be used on the rifle range only. Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCC) firing pistol rounds must go to the rifle range unless it is during a Match or Action Practice session on the third Wed. of every month from 1000-1300 and under the supervision of a Match Director or an IW, RSO. Rifle range rules apply and have always stated that pistols firing rifle rounds are used on the Rifle range. The newfangled pistols that look like a rifle with the stock removed and bang you in the face every time you pull the trigger are pistols firing a rifle round and therefore always go to the rifle range. SBR’s are rifles with short barrels and fire rifle rounds so always go to the rifle range. If you have any questions about this policy, and I didn’t make it up, you can contact me or Tony, or George Venable. If you see something, say something, or at the very least ask a question. It is all our responsibilities to make sure the safety protocols are followed by our fellow shooters. If you have a PCC and want to run and gun it, come and join us at a match or practice which, as you probably know, requires that the shooter qualify. (Contact me for more information on qualification.)
Attached are documents for you to read, and you sign off on, when you sign in to the event. There are a few changes you should check out, usually in RED.
It takes a real man or woman (or an idiot) to shoot in this weather but the bad guys don’t always wait for summer. If it is raining or snowing in Forest when I get up there is a good chance of cancellation. I know you all think I’m a weak-kneed Yankee but I’ll be 75 in January and I ain’t shooting in the rain or snow. Check your email before 0800 for cancellations.

Announcement: Action Pistol Practice on Wednesday November 15th, 2017
