Lydia Peterson ePortfolio - About The Internship

My LHSI internship is based on Pediatrics Hematology, which specializes in the study and treatment of blood disorders in children. The purpose of this internship is to develop and evaluate interventions to improve access to and quality of care for minority children living with Sickle Cell Disease. Through the use of telemedicine, this internship helps improve the access of care. As interns, we assist our supervisors and the rest of our team by transferring data that is collected from surveying patients.

Since most of my internship is online, interns use two applications to medically transfer and code information: RedCap and Cerner. In my experience, RedCap has been easier to navigate compared to Cerner. Cerner can be difficult to use as it contains sensitive information about patients. Thus, anyone that uses Cerner must go through extensive verification in order to access.
