Everyone must sign in at the registration booth, prior to setting up or chalking. We sometimes have to re-arrange spaces so please do not start setting up or chalking before checking in.
Artists are invited to begin on Friday; we will be onsite setting up until dark. There will be one security guard onsite overnight to help deter random mayhem but you are advised to not leave any valuables at the park when you leave.
The Luna Park Chalk Art Festival is located at Backesto Park at the intersection of N. 13th and Empire St. in San José, CA. Enter 551 North 13th street, San Jose, 95112 on your GPS.
Parking is available on a first come, first serve basis around the perimeter of the park along Empire, Jackson and N 15th St. Additional parking may be available in the surrounding neighborhood, but please be sure not to block any driveways.
Parking is prohibited on the N 13th St. side of the park. Unauthorized vehicles may be towed.
No alcohol, no smoking, pets and wild children must be on leash.
No fire, cooking, or other activities that would alert the fire department.
Please be patient and kind! This event is run entirely by volunteers.
You may only use soft pastels or sidewalk chalk. The City forbids the use of oil pastels, aerosol spray pigment of any kind and tempera paint. Use of these puts the Festival in jeopardy of fines and cleanup fees.
What’s Provided:
Each individual square will be provided a box of soft pastels in proportion to the size of the square.
Registered Schools and Youth Groups will be provided with a couple boxes of soft pastels to share.
We keep extra chalk on hand in case you need more of a certain color such as black. If you have extra chalk when you finish your artwork, of course you may keep it, but if you don’t want it you may leave it at the registration table to add to our supply.
Limited additional supplies such as blending squares, yardsticks, handwipes, and sunscreen may be available at the supply tent, but it’s best to bring everything think you might need.
CHECK OUT OUR CHALK TIPS PAGE for tips on how to plan your artwork and use pastels.

School and Youth group leaders must bring a signed waiver for each participant; this must include the parent or guardian's signature if the participant is under 18. Link to Individual or group waiver form
