Lumina is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our Chrome extension.
Lumina stores the following information locally on your device only:
API Keys and Provider Configurations: Your personal API keys for AI services (Google Gemini, OpenAI, Claude, Groq, etc.)
User Preferences: Your settings, theme preferences, shortcuts, and configuration options
Chat History: Your conversations with AI assistants
Dictionary Cache: Cached dictionary lookups and translations for faster performance
Extension State: Window positions, sizes, and UI state
Important: All this data is stored locally using Chrome's storage API and is never transmitted to our servers.
We do NOT collect any personal information
We do NOT track your browsing history
We do NOT share your data with third parties
We do NOT have access to your API keys or conversations
We do NOT use analytics or tracking services
API Keys: Used to authenticate with your chosen AI providers
Preferences: Customize your experience with the extension
Chat History: Allow you to review previous conversations
Cache: Improve performance by reducing redundant API calls

Your API keys are stored using Chrome's encrypted storage
All communications with AI providers use HTTPS encryption
We do not have access to your locally stored data
You can delete all stored data by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension data
Lumina requests the following Chrome permissions:
storage: Store your settings, API keys, and chat history locally on your device
unlimitedStorage: Allow storing extensive chat history and dictionary cache
activeTab: Access the current tab to read selected text for lookup and translation
tabs: Manage extension UI windows and tabs interaction
scripting: Inject content scripts to display dictionary popups and UI elements
offscreen: Create offscreen documents for audio playback
system.display: Detect monitors for optimal window positioning
alarms: Schedule background tasks (e.g., cache cleanup)
<all_urls>: Required to:
Inject dictionary lookup functionality on all websites
Communicate with user-configured AI provider APIs
Access translation and TTS services
Display extension UI on any webpage
Note: While we request <all_urls>, we only interact with:
Pages where you actively use the extension
API endpoints you configure
Official translation/TTS services
You have full control over your data:
Clear Chat History: Use the "Clear All History" button in Settings
Remove API Keys: Delete providers in Settings
Complete Removal: Uninstall the extension to remove all local data
You can manually copy your chat history from the extension UI
API keys can be backed up by you (we recommend secure password managers)
Lumina is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information, please contact us.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by:
Updating the "Last Updated" date
Showing a notification in the extension (if implemented)
Continued use of Lumina after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
Chat History: Stored indefinitely until you manually delete it
Dictionary Cache: Automatically cleared daily
API Keys: Stored until you remove them or uninstall the extension
Lumina is available worldwide. Your data is stored locally on your device regardless of your location. When you use third-party AI services, your data may be processed in different countries according to those services' privacy policies.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
Know what personal information is collected (in our case: none)
Delete personal information (you can clear all local data)
Opt-out of sale of personal information (we do not sell any data)
If you are in the European Union, you have rights under GDPR:
Right to Access: You can access all your data through the extension UI
Right to Deletion: You can delete all data at any time
Right to Portability: You can export your chat history
Right to Object: You can stop using the extension anytime
Since we don't collect data on servers, most GDPR provisions are satisfied by the local-only nature of our extension.
