Joy to the World, Lakeview's Christmas program is Sunday, December 15th, at 4:00 pm. Something is planned for all ages! Adults will share cookies and hot cocoa or coffee in our newly created "Community Room." They will have the opportunity to fellowship and test their Christmas carol knowledge with some games. Children will have a special hands-on craft time in the Fellowship Hall. At 5:00 we'll all enjoy a special dinner of chili and grilled cheese sandwiches, plus veggie & fruit cups. All food is provided, you just need to come. While the adults are finishing up their meal, the children will meet with Ms. Nancy to hear the Christmas story. Parts will be selected, costumes arranged, and an impromptu reenactment will take place in the sanctuary, followed by all singing Christmas carols. We'll conclude with eating cake & ice cream in a birthday party for Jesus. Plan to come and get the spirit of the real meaning of Christmas.
Special thanks to Kathi McCormick and the Family Ministries Committee for organizing this special program, Marilyn Colby for costume design, Linda Ancion for organizing the dinner, Nancy Smith for sharing the message, Marilyn Morton for hosting the adult fellowship, Bob White - head barista, and Dave for leading the music.
Thanks to all the families who sponsored Christmas Baskets for those in need. Please contact your family to schedule a time with them to drop off the basket. Any problems or questions, call Wayne Kersey.
Christmas Eve service, 5:00 pm, at Lakeview United Methodist Church
Pastor Sam McMinn, our new interim pastor, will begin his ministry in January. He will be part-time, but Lakeview is his only church. He and his wife, Katlyn, are expecting a baby in early January. Eloise will soon become a big sister! We are planning a small reception after church on Sunday, January 5th, to welcome them. Shhhhhh! Top Secret.....let's stack up a small tower of diapers to help the family with the arrival of their little one. A top secret investigation uncovered they like to use Member's Mark diapers from Sam's or else Target brand. So if you want to, bring a box of diapers to our Fellowship Hall and add it to the stack before the service begins on the 5th. I'm sure a variety of sizes would be appreciated. If you are uncomfortable in the diaper aisle and prefer to donate cash, Wayne & Karen would be happy to do the shopping for you. We're giving big sister, Eloise a newborn baby doll and diaper bag appropriate for a 2 year old so she can be a mom, too. The card will say it's from all of us. Thanks.
The church calendar, where we record which groups and when they are using our building, is hanging in the library by the copier. Be sure to let John Humphreys or Dick Thompson know so they can provide needed heat or air-conditioning.
Several members were chatting informally about how to make our church more inviting and community oriented. Adults that meet at our church usually use the "Sunday School room" that has the phone. After a brainstorming session, that room has been turned into "the Community Room." On the counter is a Keurig Coffee machine, Keurig pods for coffee, decaf, tea, and cocoa, cups, spoons, sweeteners, and everything needed for hosting people in a hopefully inviting way. Our own groups like Bible Journaling, Adult Sunday School, committee meetings are welcome to enjoy a cup of coffee any time they meet. Other groups that meet at our church like Riverlake Residents, etc., are welcome to enjoy our hospitality, too. Definitely check it out! Also, if you're shopping and see some interesting K-cups, consider buying a box to help keep this ministry going. Thank you in advance.
A small tree in the back of the sanctuary is ready for donations of mittens, hats, and scarves. They will be delivered to Sojourner's Shelter for residents there.
