A message from Pastor Kerry...

I just want you to know that I love you and it has been my joy and honor to serve here for the last few years and I will miss you! Y’all are good people!

I have typed up something of a synopsis of WV Annual Conference 2023, and you can read it here: https://kerrfunk.blogspot.com/2023/06/an-incomplete-and-hopefully-unbiased.html (caveat lector!)

Naturally there are other more official sources at www.wvumc.org/news

WVAC has a flickr page with tons of photos from Annual Conference and more!

Annual Conference received offerings for three ministries (the Africa University Tractor Fund, Dig Deep Appalachia Water Project, and the Reparations Fund of the United Methodist Foundation of West Virginia), and you can give online through the end of June: https://www.wvumc.org/news/2023/06/still-time-to-give-ac2023-special-offerings/

Come wish Pastor Kerry Godspeed from 9:15-10:00 this Sunday morning, June 18th.  We'll have coffee & donuts, muffins, tea, and orange juice while we socialize.  This is his last Sunday at Lakeview.  We wish him well.

Our Lakeview United Methodist Sonshine '23 Race resulted in approximately $1,200 to be given to the St. Albans Food Pantry and $1,200 to the food pantry in Tornado.  Lakeview is reaching out to serve others!

A Welcome Reception will be held for our new minister, Pastor Brian Plum and his wife, Zondra, before our church service on Sunday, July 2nd.  We look forward to the new opportunities and challenges we'll face growing in our faith together.  More information coming soon!

Treasurer’s Report - Jeff Ekstrom

5K: $3,211.64 was the balance in the 5k Sonshine Run fund prior to the race.  $1,897 was spent for the race.  $1,820 was brought in by the race.  There is a bill in the amount of $850 to be paid for the race next month.  Afterwards Humphrey’s and SA food pantries will be given the balance remaining in the fund. Motion was made to accept the Treasurer’s report for May and was unanimously approved. (Linda/Marilyn)

 Minutes - Deborah Rowe

The minutes from the May meeting were reviewed.  Motion was made to accept the minutes for June and was unanimously approved.  (Dicky/Linda)

Parsonage - Marilyn Morton

•  A couple more rooms have been painted in the parsonage by volunteers. PK is moving out Tuesday, June 20, the carpet cleaners are scheduled for Wednesday, June 21 and the new pastor will move in on Thursday, June 22.

Trustee’s Report - Dicky Thompson

•   The furnace was repaired by Jerry Hilbert at a cost of $2,600 to repair the boiler.  The pump that circulated water in the multipurpose room was broken.

•   PK gave Dicky the passwords.  If lost, they are also stored on the sanctuary laptop desktop.

•   Dicky found a machine to stripe the parking lot for $89.00 at Sherwin Williams.  It is $150 at other stores.  PK stated that there is someone at Humphreys that has a paint machine that we could borrow.  Jeff volunteered to paint the lines.

•   The new pastor will not be bringing his camper to the Parsonage.

•   Flowers were planted at the church earlier this month and Chris trimmed the shrubs. Chris Davis will place mulch.

•   The spring cleaning list is completed.

Pastor Kerry

•   Many thanks to Marilyn and all who have helped with painting the Parsonage.

•   Someone picked up the old copier.

•   PK gave a summary of Annual Conference:

•   General Conference will be April 23-May 3, 2024 in Charlotte, NC.

•   50 UM churches closed in West Virginia in 2022.  Approximately 25 closed for financial reasons and 23 separated from UMC.

•   A pastor from WV, Brad Bennett, was awarded the Helping Hands Award of Excellence.

•   A couple of contentious issues were brought to the floor:

•   2023-08 Petition to hold clergy accountable to ordination vows.  It was determined that the issue was for the Board of Ordained Ministry, not the UMC council.

•   2023-09 Petitioning to keep the conference from varying practices from the written procedures.  This was not heard because a 90 day notice wasn’t given.  The 90 notice rule was passed the day before.
