Happy New Year!
How is it with your soul? I imagine some of you are tired of the snow, and others (like me!) enjoy the change of landscape. I plan to be more intentional about reaching out to folks on the phone, to check in and see how people are doing in the midst of all this. The phone works both ways, too, so please, feel free to give me a call as well!
I know people are tired of the pandemic! Thank you for your continuing to mask up when we are in worship and other gatherings together. I hope we’ll be able to soon look back on the pandemic as a fond memory, but until that time, I’ll continue to encourage appropriate cautionary measures.
The worship services will continue to be shared live at www.Facebook.com/LUMCWV, and sermons shared on our SermonByPhone service at 304-721-2307.
Have I told you lately that I love you and there is nothing you can do about it? It’s true!
Here are several things PK wants to share with Lakeview folks at this time:
1. 2022 Leadership
2. Calendar (incl. Souper Bowl)
3. Lenten Bible Study invitation
4. Greece and Turkey invitation, Nov. 2022
1. 2022 LEADERSHIP: Six weeks ago, at the beginning of December, we had our Charge Conference. One of the business items we approved at that meeting was the slate of committee members for the coming year. It’s possible I didn’t write some of my notes correctly, so if you see a discrepancy on this list, please let me know.
Admin Board: Bud Newbrough, chair; Debbie Rowe, Secretary; Jeff Ekstrom, Financial Secretary; Karen Ekstrom, Treasurer
SPRC: Janet Painter, Ruth Anderson, Jim Rose, Wayne Kersey, Mary Ferguson, Karen Ekstrom, Franki Noble, Linda Thompson
Trustees: Dick Thompson, John McCormick, Don Morton, Bill Casto, Dave Ashley, Jim Rose, John Humphreys, Chris Davis
Nominations: Linda Thompson, Marilyn Morton, Karen Ekstrom, Helen Cherry, Mary Ferguson, Dick Thompson, Bob Carpenter, Linda Ancion, Ruth Anderson
Finance: Amy Humphreys, Bud Newbrough, Dave Koontz, Janet Painter, Don Morton, Jeff Ekstrom, Don Griffith
2. CALENDAR: One-page calendars are available in the sanctuary, and on the back side of the calendar are listed committee meeting dates (for Lakeview AND for Humphreys) as well as a few other dates of interest.
Two things to bring up for February:
There is an Administrative Board meeting February 8, and that’s the only committee meeting in Feb!
Sunday February 13 is the Super Bowl, so we will have a canned / nonperishable food drive for the “Souper Bowl of Caring.” On Sunday the 6th and the 13th, worshipers are encouraged to bring food items to church for donation, and we’ll split the bounty between Christ Kitchen and the Humphreys food pantry. Then on Saturday Feb 19 from 10am to 2pm, members are invited to assist the distribution at the Humphreys food pantry! Please let Pastor Kerry know if you’d like to participate in this.
3. Lenten Bible Study invitation: Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 2, and Pastor Kerry would like to offer a Lenten Bible Study. The plan is to make the same study available at two different times during the week – once in person (probably Sunday evenings) and once via zoom (probably Wednesday afternoon). Please would you email PK at kerry.w.bart@gmail.com if you’re interested in participating, and which session you’d prefer to attend, or whether you’d like to suggest a different time?
4. Greece and Turkey invitation, Nov. 2022: Pastor Ellis Conley shared this Educational Opportunities invitation with me and asked if I’d share it with you!
Rev. Dr. Ellis Conley and Julie Conley are hosting an Educational Opportunities tour to Turkey and Greece retracing the footsteps of the Apostle Paul, November 1-14, 2022.
Departing from Charleston, this trip visits Istanbul, Nicaea, Cappadocia, Antioch, Laodicea, Ephesus, Thessaloniki, Delphi, Athens, and Corinth, for $4,398. An informational meeting will be held Sunday afternoon, January 30, 2 pm. at Forrest Burdette Memorial UMC, Hurricane. If you have questions give Ellis a call or text at 304-614-5922 or conleyellis@aol.com. He will be glad to email or send you a brochure.
God bless you, dear ones. I am yours -- PK

PS/PRC - Wayne Kersey
• Committee members called church members re: staff Christmas gifts and collected $1,580 for staff gifts. There will be another committee meeting January 17.
• Christmas baskets - There were fewer requests for baskets this year, so we did 8 baskets instead of the 10 requested. Pastor Kerry enclosed a handwritten card with each basket. Money in the budget for the baskets was not used, instead the baskets were purchased by donations. We will try to utilize the money set aside for the baskets in 2022. It was also proposed that we could use the money budgeted for Christmas baskets during the year if we learn of a need.
Parsonage - Marilyn Morton
• Nothing new to report.
