"Come, I will make you fishers of men....."
PK writes:
I’m writing today from sunny Branson Missouri, from a family reunion with thirty relatives on my mom’s side. Although we all lived in different states, my brothers and I grew up seeing these cousins and aunts and uncles pretty much every year, and we have had a few family gatherings as my generation entered parenthood as well. It is a joy to watch the next generation as they are becoming adults, and to imagine our gatherings continuing over the decades.
I also joy in the family that the church is. The cares and concerns that are shared, sorrows weathered and celebrations lifted, it moves me to praise. The body of Christ meeting and worshiping and working together and reaching out, “these are a few of my favorite things.”
My family reunion is terrific, but one thing that could make it even better would be the presence of a few family members that didn’t join us. Similarly, with respect to our church family, I wonder if there isn’t some way we could nudge up participation in our activities. We grow in love and fellowship – and mission and ministry – when we have more shared experiences. I’ll admit, it’s something I strive for myself, but what if we looked around at some of our functions and in addition to seeing people who were there, we saw people who weren’t there, and we called them or dropped them a note saying we missed them? That “life is better with you,” to quote another song I like.
Life is better with you. The gifts of God are sweetest when shared with many. I love you and there is nothing you can do about it, and I eagerly anticipate growing with you as we seek to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
Hoping to see you soon, I am yours –
Pastor Kerry
HELP WANTED:
The trustees are looking for volunteers who will lock up the church after each Sunday Service. Please sign up for a month and take a turn. Thanks!
Sunday, August 29th
immediately after church
We will celebrate Tracie's music ministry at Lakeview and have a chance to say goodbye to her and Tommy. We'll share pepperoni rolls, individually packaged salads, and a dessert. Tables will be spaced apart and safety protocols will be in place. Special thanks to our Pastor Parish Committee and the Choir for providing the food.
Children's Church with Miss Nancy is ready to roll! See you Sunday!
A special thanks to everyone who helped make our Bible School a special place for children to get together again and learn stories about Jesus. On what I'm sure was the hottest day ever recorded for Bible School, 31 church volunteers (wow!) shared God's love with 33 children in our community. The storytellers, craft helpers, game leaders, helping hands, picture takers, and food preparers put Christian love and sharing with others into practice. We will strive all year to find ways to follow Jesus' example of being fishers of men.

Nurture will help to plan Tracy’s going away reception and she will also ask the worship committee to help.
Parsonage - Marilyn Morton
There is nothing new to report.
• The riding lawn mower is broken. Pastor Kerry stated that he recently bought a riding lawn mower, but it was decided that it would be for him personally, not the church. Dicky would recommend a new walk behind, self-propelled mower, if the church decided to buy one. It was discussed and decided that the church doesn’t need a new mower at this time, since everyone who mows the lawn brings their own.
• The mowing schedule was discussed. Dicky is still trying to fill a few spots from now until the end of the year.
• Chris Davis had surgery on his foot yesterday.
• [From Linda], Dicky does a walk through of the church once a week.
• Monday, December 6 is Charge Conference at 6:00 p.m., with both churches. St. Andrews is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
• Pastor Kerry will be on vacation in Branson, Missouri with relatives leaving August 1 and returning August 8. Is everyone ok with him being at church on August 8? It was agreed that it would be ok, and that he could encourage everyone to wear a mask.
• Since August 29 is the fifth Sunday of August, and the last day for Tracy and Tommy, he thinks the service will be ‘heavy on music’ that day.
• Christmas Eve service will be on Friday, December 24, at 6:00 in the Sanctuary. Christmas Eve service at Humphreys will start at 8:30 or 9:00.
• Vacation Bible school was AMAZING! Many thanks to all of the volunteers! The organization and format went very well. How many church members participated? (31)
