Animal re-identification

• The goal of animal re-identification is to recognize individual animals from images.

• We developed a Python library wildlife-datasets which provides provides an API to download and handle over 40 animal re-identification datasets.

• We published a foundational model MegaDescriptor able to identify individuals of most species.

• We published several sea turtle datasets (here, here, here and here) to allow other researchers train on more data.

Julia and machine learning

• Julia is a fast programming language for scientific computing. We created an online course teaching the basics of Julia and its applications in machine learning.

• I taught the course at two faculties of the Czech Technical University with excellent feedback from students.

• The source code is freely available with contributors worldwide. 

Interaction of university and industry

• Realizing the need of mathematical students for understanding the practical effects of their knowledge, I founded the seminar Mathematical problems of non-mathematicians, where people from companies present their real-world problems connected to mathematics.

• The seminar later gained enormous popularity and is streamed to several Czech universities.
