RESEARCH DESCRIPTION
I am a theoretical physicist with broad and evolving interests. My research combines aspects of quantum mechanics, quantum field theory, and quantum information to predict and understand novel states of matter. Current and past topics include:
Highly entangled topological phases of matter
Fractional Chern Insulators and Fractional Topological Insulators
Cavity QED and light-matter interactions
Unconventional superconductivity
Short-range entangled phases, such as Symmetry-Protected Topological (SPT) phases
Out-of-equilibrium quantum states
Topological qubits, including Majorana fermions and parafermions
My interests and research directions are continually evolving. To learn more or discuss potential collaborations and opportunities, please contact me at luiz.santos@emory.edu.

Postdoctoral Position in Condensed Matter Theory at Emory University
Prof. Santos’ group at Emory University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to explore NSF and DOE projects on hybrid light-matter systems, quantum entanglement, and emergent phenomena in quantum materials. We especially encourage candidates with expertise in condensed matter theory, quantum optics, or quantum information science.
The position involves analytical modeling, numerical simulations, and collaborative projects with theorists and experimentalists. We offer a competitive salary, benefits, travel support for conferences, and nomination for qualifiedfellowships for exceptional candidates.
Qualifications: PhD in Physics or related field; strong background in condensed matter theory or quantum optics; computational experience a plus; excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Apply: Send CV including a list of publications and contact information for three references to luiz.santos@emory.edu with the subject: “Postdoc Application in Condensed Matter Theory.” Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
