I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Informatics, Systems and Communication (DISCo) at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Milano, Italy. I am a member of the Intelligent Sensing Laboratory headed by prof. Paolo Napoletano. I am currently serving as Associate Editor for Elsevier Neurocompunting and Springer Image, Signal and Video Processing journals.
I received an BSc in Computer Science from the University of Messina and both my MSc and PhD (supervised by prof. Raimondo Schettini and prof. Paolo Napoletano) degrees in Computer Science from the University of Milano-Bicocca.
I mainly focus on signal, image and video analysis and understanding. Image and video analysis studies focus primarily on defining perceptual metrics for assessing quality, aesthetics, and memorability. Some of the previous metrics were, among other things, used for image enhancement works. Visual understanding research is about facial analysis and monitoring. My work on audio signal understanding concerns the recognition of the speaker and the emotional state of the speaker.
