On the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the planet is giving itself a treat and the Mother Nature is celebrating in full zeal. The skies are clearing of pollution, sea creatures are returning to refreshed clean waters, wildlife taking back some share of their lost territories and bears wandering around empty lodges. This is how the earth is taking care of its environment.
On April 22, 1970, millions took to the streets on the first Earth Day (Source: earthday.org), demanding clean air and environmental protection. Massive citizenship participation, led to the Clean Air Act, and other landmark environmental protection laws but all of these historical efforts of our forefathers, combined with approved policies and laws were discarded to facilitate capitalism.
And now, look at us fifty years later, because of our massive damage done to the environment, this day, again we call for people to unite in the fight against global pandemic, a product of man-greed, COVID-19, has already infected around 2 million people across the globe (published by NEWSWEEK, NY,USA).
On this day, we need to open our eyes and minds, look at this outbreak as yet another opportunity from Mother Nature, to clean our environment for generations to come; it is the time to improve air quality, not to abandon clean air protections acts. Environment stimulus policies should invest in clean air, scaling up the use of many available new technologies, to heal our lungs and our planet.
“Amid the recent outbreak, we encourage people to rise up but to do so safely and responsibly – in many cases, that means using our voices to drive action online rather than in person,” said Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network.
Scrap metal recycling also has an impact on the environment that’s why we encourage scrap recyclers to scrap their waste metals like copper, aluminium, steel at metal recycling facilities instead of landfills which is harmful to our environment.
Marking the 50th anniversary of Earth Day with investments in clean energy and the strengthening of environmental protection will yield health benefits for years to come. On #EarthDay2020 let us pledge to live in harmony with the environment to preserve the world with valuable and sustainable resources.
