Quincy Jones almost nabbed this slice of loved-up electrofunk for Michael Jackson, but it ended up becoming a signature tune for R&B diva Khan when she sang it with her old band Rufus in 1983. When Frankie Knuckles gave it a piano house remix in 1989, a new generation went crazy for the song: now artists ranging from Mary J. Blige to KT Tunstall have recorded versions, but none of them reach the thrilling heights of Chaka as she hits the final chorus.

The combination of Eminem rapping and Rihanna singing about an abusive relationship, something both artists had personally experienced, though from different perspectives, was powerful enough to send the song to No. 1 on the Hot 100 for seven weeks in the summer of 2010. At 12x platinum, it is the best-selling song by either artist.

Freddie Mercury wrote the song while languishing in his bath at the Munich Hilton. He leapt from the tub and ran to his guitar and piano to lay down the melody. His label was reluctant to release the song in the U.S. but radio stations played the imported U.K. single anyway, forcing an American release.

When the Stax label folded, the three Hutchinson sisters had to find a new home. They were signed to a production company run by Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire. With group member Al McKay, White wrote this song specifically for them and the lead voice of Wanda Hutchinson.

A love song is a song about romantic love, falling in love, heartbreak after a breakup, and the feelings that these experiences bring. A comprehensive list of even the best known performers and composers of love songs would be a large order.

The oldest known love song is the love song of Shu-Sin, which was discovered in the library of Ashurbanipal in Mesopotamia.[1] It was about both romantic and erotic love. Prior to the discovery of the love song of Shu-Sin, Solomon's Song of Songs from the Bible was considered the oldest love song.

There are several theories about the origin of music in a general sense. According to Charles Darwin, it has to do with the choice of partner between woman and man (women choose male partners based on musical performances), and so the first music would be love music. However, Herbert Spencer saw music develop from a passionate eloquence, and music arise as an expression of emotions.[2]

In Ancient Greece civilization music was certainly made at weddings, and there were certainly love songs, as Erato as a muse was the protector of the love song, but our knowledge is written on myths and on pictures (as on vases) and not on written music based. It was not until the ninth century that a musical notation was developed in the Eastern Roman Empire, the neume notation, and after the addition of lines the staff was created around the 11th century, with which music is only well documented from this period.

A highly controversial and startling explanation of the genesis of love songs can be found in Denis de Rougemont's "Love in the Western World".[3] De Rougemont's thesis is that the love song grew out of the courtly love songs of the troubadours, and that those songs represented a rejection of the historical Christian notion of love.

Mediaeval love songs are called "Minnelied" in Middle High German, chant d'amour courtois by troubadour (Langues d'oc) or trouvre (Langues d'ol). The (unfulfilled, unattainable) courtly love in a noble environment is therefore central. The worship of the lady is a recurring theme. A number of personae also constantly return, such as the lover who regrets being rejected by his lady, the lady who regrets the absence of her lord who is on a crusade. Generosity, nobility of character, receptivity to new experiences and attention to beauty and appearance are also common themes. The 14th century Codex Manesse includes love songs by dukes as John I, Duke of Brabant and William IX, Duke of Aquitaine.

The Gruuthuse manuscript - written in Middle Dutch - composed around 1400 in Bruges contains 147 songs, including a number of love songs with musical notation. The manuscript is from several lyricists, mostly unknown.[4][5]

Francesco Petrarca has sung his beloved Laura in 366 poems, collected in "Canzonire". The poems were set to music by, among others, Claudio Monteverdi, Orlando di Lasso and Guillaume Dufay (Vergene bella).

Within Classical music, Romanticism is most commonly associated with love music, especially romantic love music, and the love song is called a romance, although the term is not limited to vocal music.

Franz Schubert wrote several romances, and Giuseppe Verdi wrote "Celeste Aida" about the impossible love for an Ethiopian slave girl.[7]Poets such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Federico Garcia Lorca wrote romances, which were later set to music, such as Take this waltz by Leonard Cohen.[8]

The close relationship between poems and song lyrics was underscored when Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016 for creating new poetic expressions in the great American song tradition.

The love song is not a musical genre or musical style; it occurs in all styles. Yet on the English Wikipedia there are about 40 albums with the title "Love Songs" (by the Beatles, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, among others), some with "The Love Songs" and around 20 with the title "Love Songs by" (Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick and Diana Ross, among others).

A music style is considered to be "lovers rock", a subgenre of reggae and the "ballad", including the "blues ballad", the "soul ballad", the "pop ballad" and the "rock" or "power ballad". A ballad is a melodic pop song,[9] often with an intimate atmosphere. The lyrics are mostly about love. A ballad should not be confused with 'ballad', a French verse from the 14th and 15th centuries, also used as a song in narrative form, such as "The Ballad of Davy Crockett". In the later 19th century, the term was often used for any love song, especially the "sentimental ballad" in pop or rock music.

The largest group are the love songs about a broken heart, they are sometimes less melodic, and sung more raw like Lucinda Williams' "Jackson" in contrast to, for example, Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On", the title song of the film Titanic. The best-selling song about a broken heart is "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston, written by Dolly Parton. Taylor Swift had a fondness for songs on the subject. [10]

Romantic love is often associated with 'candlelight dinners' and 'moonlit walks' so that many love songs are about 'candlelight' and the 'moon', such as in Van Morrison's "Moondance", or "Moon River" from the film Breakfast at Tiffany's.

A group show conceived as a mixtape of songs gifted to a lover, Love Songs features photographic projects about love and intimacy from 16 contemporary photographers, including Nobuyoshi Araki, Ergin avuolu, Motoyuki Daifu, Fouad Elkoury, Aikaterini Gegisian, Nan Goldin, Ren Groebli, Herv Guibert, Sheree Hovsepian, Clifford Prince King, Leigh Ledare, Lin Zhipeng (No. 223), Sally Mann, RongRong&inri, Collier Schorr, and Karla Hiraldo Voleau.

Through the myriad lens of intimate relationships, Love Songs brings together series dating from 1952 to 2022 by some of the leading photographers of our time that explore love, desire and intimacy in all their most complex and contradictory ways. The exhibition is the U.S. museum debut for work by Aikaterini Gegisian and Lin Zhipeng (aka no. 223), the first New York City museum presentation of the work of Sheree Hovsepian and Motoyuki Daifu, and the U.S. debut of the work of Karla Hiraldo Voleau.

Clocking in before the rest of us are even awake, the book wastes no time. It does the work and beckons you to follow. A compilation of poems, lyrics and essays from the UN presenter, MC, and two-time National Poetry Slam champion, this book is a love song tucked into a grenade, a necessary call that demands a response.

Every time the song is purchased, streamed, or shared, the royalties go directly towards the efforts of Friends of the Earth to keep fossil fuels in the ground and lower carbon emissions, and to the work of the U.N. Foundation to inspire international action on climate change.

Lovesong focussed on an older couple who were struggling to come to terms with an illness. As they entered a crucial week in their lives their house became filled with ever vivid memories of each other.

The speed of a swallow, the grace of a boy,

With carefullest carelessness, gaily you won,

I am weak from your loveliness, Joan Hunter Dunn.

Tesina is an oral exam when you finish high school in Italy.

Can I ask you why do you choose to create these comics using the love song of j. Alfred Prufrock and also where do you come from?It is all connected with my exam

Thank you so much in advance

I read this poem some 6 years ago, when I was falling in love with a girl and was standing outside her dorm room in college, not knowing how should I tell her that I loved her. A friend suggested this poem to me, then.

This is honestly one of my favourite things ever. Prufrock is one of my all time favourite poems and you give it so much life. I especially love the little the little silent panels you have added in, they really capture the mood.

This thrilled me beyond words, Julian. Having lived with this poem and images for so long, do you still love it, or are you tired of it? I hope you know that my eyes saw it for the first time and fell in love.

The Love Song of Night and Day is a poem from Jamuraa, Dominaria. It tells the story of the love between night and day, and their separation. It was written by Jenny Scott, a long-time editor at Wizards of the Coast and frequent contributor to The Duelist magazine, who wrote it as part of the worldbuilding for Jamuraa.[1] It was told through flavor text of seventeen cards released in Mirage and Visions. Much later, the Song was referenced again in King of the Pride from Modern Horizons and Love Song of Night and Day in Dominaria United. 2351a5e196
