Seven years ago, I never realized what an incredible journey we were embarking upon together. I never would have believed that the sixteen year old boy with shaggy hair and a goofy smile would grow into the strong, hardworking, and loving man that will be waiting for me at the altar.

Seven years of joyous success and heartbreaking loss, of moving from Maryland to Philadelphia and back again, of graduating from high school and then from college. Seven years of growing up, but never growing apart. Of conquering all that life put in our way, day by day, we grew together.

Huey, you are the reason that I fight so incredibly hard to be the best person that I can be. You give me a reason to make every single day even better than the last. You have shown me what it means to live and love, to give of my heart fully, to wake up every morning with the hope of helping others.

I promise to inspire you the way you have always inspired me, to lift you up when you falter, to bring you coffee in bed and kiss your cheeks when they are stained with the tears of hardship and the tears of happiness.

The loss of my mom has generated within me a deeper compassion for others and a broadened appreciation for our shared humanity. Some of the greatest moments of my life born out of this experience were the times when I could be a support or listening ear for others who have gone through, or were preparing to go through, this loss.

I remember feeling so lost after my mother passed. It was like the whole world was moving and I was the only one standing still. I remember my sister calling and talking about how she felt the same weird loneliness even though she was surrounded by people.

One of the greatest ironies to me was the realization that this loss has become a great source of strength for me. Losing my mom made me see how much I had taken for granted in life, and I became much more present and grateful as a result. There is a wonderful poem I discovered recently called The Unbroken" by Rashani Ra, that beautifully captures this dichotomy. She wrote this poem in 1991, after the 5th death in her family. I hope it inspires you as much as it has inspired me.

To those that may be new to this community, and those for whom the pain is still very strong, I send you love and prayers of peace, on behalf of our tribe of motherless children. Everyone needs love. The body actually craves it. Different forms of affectionate touch are known to trigger a release of oxytocin, often referred to as the "love hormone." Studies suggest that certain words can also spark specific reactions in the brain. If you're looking for a similar response to what a hug may inspire, then you might just try dropping those three little words: I love you. Founded in 2010, Thought Catalog is owned and operated by The Thought & Expression Company, Inc. For over a decade, we've been at the bleeding edge of media, pioneering an infrastructure for creatives to flourish both artistically and financially.

It seems hard to believe, but we've been together for almost six months now. That's not very long in the grand scheme of things, but it's long enough for me to know how much I love you. I remember (but only vaguely now!) how my life was before I met you and I never want to go back to that dreary existence again. That was when I had nothing much to look forward to except a pizza delivery and a rented movie on Saturday night, nothing much to get up for in the morning except a day at work. Having had my heart broken twice already, I was becoming something of a hermit; sure I never wanted to get involved with anyone again. I was to the point where I believed that the "happily ever after" kind of love was only found in fiction and in fairy tales--but then I met you.

Thank goodness the substitute mailman (or is it "letter carrier" now?) got our apartment numbers mixed up and I got a chance to play Mr. Speedy Delivery. The mutual attraction we felt for each other that day has changed my life forever. It was almost too much to hope for (because I have such strong opinions about everything), but we even have the same views on the war and the economy. We're never at a loss for words or things to talk about--that is, when our lips are free to speak! Now I believe in love again, because I believe in you. And I function at warp speed now because--it thrills me to say it--you actually believe in me!

Leah, you've brought me so much happiness and joy that I can scarcely contain it all. I'm sure beams of light radiate from me wherever I go. I noticed a few raised eyebrows at work when I started coming in bright and early (on time, every time!), smiling and energized, humming some love song I heard on the radio while driving in. A couple of the guys wanted to know what's up with me, but they don't understand I am filled with secrets that cannot be shared or even expressed in words. So I just told them that I'm seeing someone and it's the real thing this time. 152ee80cbc
