WTF Apple?? Why can't I have a loud alarm in the morning and a medium volume ringtone throughout the day? I would very much prefer setting a volume preference for both of these things, and the only workaround is activating the setting where you have all volumes adjusted by the volume rocker, but again, I want an unchanging volume for these two things.

Oh, the first few seconds is still loud and then the volume goes to what you set it. I didn't realize it at first since my daughter was talking to me at the moment. Shoot! Maybe having to get an alarm instead of my phone until they can do an update!
