The world famous Chincoteague Pony Swim occurs every year on the last Wednesday and Thursday of July.
Lorna's Dune provides a ringside seat, from the enclosed porch, to view the ponies walk from the swim site to the carnival grounds. Once the ponies have rested from the swim from Assateague Island to Memorial Park, the herd is walked down Main Street to the carnival grounds where the pony auction will be held the following day.
At Lorna's Dune you can literally reach out and touch the ponies as they walk by after the swim. And you are just a short walk to the carnival grounds from Lorna's Dune.
