The backyard at Lorna's Dune is landscaped with a variety of seasonal wildflower and butterfly gardens. An herb garden features the host plants for our popular Eastern Black Swallowtail butterfly. The Black Swallowtail caterpillars abound on the fennel, dill and parsley in the herb garden. Our Monarch garden is important to support the dwindling numbers of Monarchs nationwide and features their favorite host plant, Milkweed.
Lorna's Dune butterfly gardens attract a wide variety of butterflies including Monarch, Eastern Black Swallowtail, Tiger Swallowtail, Buckeye, Red Admiral, and Fritillary. Ruby-throated hummingbirds can be spotted in the gardens regularly as well.
