If you want lightweight wired on-ear headphones for study with a straightforward 3.5 mm connection, choose LORELEI E5; if you need over-ear cups, noise-reducing isolation, and switchable stereo or mono sound, choose Califone 3068AV.
For a child using a tablet or other device with a headphone jack, the E5 keeps the setup simple. For shared listening or a longer corded connection, Califone offers more adjustments and a coiled cable.
• LORELEI E5 strength: Foldable, swivel on-ear design with a wired 3.5 mm connection. Trade-off: It has no noise control.
• Califone 3068AV strength: Over-ear, noise-reducing cups, adjustable volume on each cup, and stereo/mono switching. Trade-off: Its 10-foot coiled cord may be more cable than a compact, everyday setup needs.
• Choose LORELEI E5 for a child who needs uncomplicated wired headphones for study, school, or tablet listening.
• Choose Califone 3068AV for someone who values over-ear coverage, sound isolation, flexible listening modes, and a longer cord.
The LORELEI E5 is a wired, on-ear headphone built around a simple connection: a 3.5 mm jack. That makes it a practical option for a child’s compatible tablet or another device with a headphone port. There is no wireless setup to manage. Its listed 0.23 kg weight and foldable, swivel design also point toward a pair that can be packed away when listening is done.
For study, the E5 makes the most sense in a relatively quiet place, such as a bedroom, library corner, or classroom activity where outside sound is not the main problem. Its 20 Hz–20,000 Hz frequency range and dynamic drivers describe its audio components, but the sheet does not specify a sound-isolation feature. It also lists noise control as none, so I would not choose it for blocking surrounding activity. The media controls provide a way to manage playback without changing its wired design.
Who should skip it: Skip the E5 if over-ear coverage or noise-reducing cups are priorities, or if you need a headphone with a stated mono/stereo switch.
The E5 is listed for children and has a one-year warranty. Those details may matter to a family choosing a straightforward school or travel headset, but they do not change its basic limitations: it is an on-ear wired model, and its 3.5 mm jack needs to match the device. The supplied information does not list an adapter, so check the intended device’s connection before choosing it.
How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.
A shopper searching for the best over ear headphones for study should note that the E5 is on-ear, not over-ear. That distinction is more useful than the search phrase itself: the earcups rest on the ears rather than enclosing them. If you want a compact, wired child-focused option and do not need noise control, that design may be a better fit than a larger over-ear model.
The Califone 3068AV is the more feature-oriented choice. Its over-ear cups are described as noise-reducing, and its sound isolation is intended to lessen surrounding sound. That can suit study in a room where some ambient noise is present, though the available details do not establish active noise cancellation or promise that all outside sound will disappear. These are wired headphones, so the cable remains part of the setup.
Its coiled cord extends to 10 feet and ends in a 3.5 mm plug; a 1/4-inch adapter is also included. That combination offers connection options and more reach than a short, straight cable would. The extra length can be useful when the listening device is not right beside the listener, but it may be less convenient when the headphones are being carried around or used in a compact space.
Who should skip it: Skip the Califone if you specifically want foldable on-ear headphones for a compact child’s setup, or if you do not want to manage a long coiled cord.
The 3068AV has volume control knobs on both ear cups and can switch between monaural and stereo modes. Those features give it more control over how listening is handled than the E5 offers in the listed specifications. The replaceable leatherette ear cushions are sold separately, so replacement is possible, but it is not a matter of simply assuming spare cushions are included. Califone lists a three-year warranty.
Its 20 Hz–20,000 Hz frequency range and dynamic drivers are the same broad audio specifications listed for the E5. That does not tell us which one sounds better. The more concrete difference is the Califone’s over-ear, noise-reducing design and its listening controls. It is the more suitable candidate for a quiet-work setup where isolation and mode switching matter more than a compact foldable form.
This is not a solution for someone specifically seeking noise cancelling in ear earbuds for study. The Califone is a wired over-ear headphone, not an in-ear wireless model, and its stated feature is sound isolation rather than active noise cancellation. Likewise, anyone searching for the best transparency mode headphone for study should know that neither product lists a transparency mode. Califone’s mono/stereo switch changes the listening mode, not the amount of outside sound passed through.
• Best for a simple wired child’s setup → LORELEI E5. It is listed for kids and connects through a 3.5 mm jack.
• Best for over-ear coverage → Califone 3068AV. Its earcups are over-ear, while the E5 rests on the ears.
• Best for stated noise reduction → Califone 3068AV. It lists noise-reducing cups and sound isolation; the E5 lists no noise control.
• Best for packing away → LORELEI E5. Its foldable, swivel design is a clear convenience for storage and carrying.
• Best for changing between mono and stereo → Califone 3068AV. The E5’s supplied details do not list that option.
• Best for separate ear-cup volume knobs → Califone 3068AV. It has a volume control on each cup.
• Best for a longer corded reach → Califone 3068AV. Its coiled cord reaches 10 feet and includes a 1/4-inch adapter alongside the 3.5 mm plug.
• Best for a lightweight listed weight → LORELEI E5. Its stated weight is 0.23 kg; no weight is provided for the Califone, so there is no direct weight comparison.
The shared 3.5 mm connection and matching listed frequency range do not make these interchangeable in every situation. Their fit, cable arrangement, isolation, and controls are quite different. A buyer who mainly needs a dependable wired connection for a compatible device may lean toward the E5, while someone who needs the Califone’s longer cord or listening-mode switch has a more specific reason to choose it.
For a child’s everyday wired headphones for study, I would choose the LORELEI E5 if compact storage and a simple 3.5 mm connection are the priorities.
I would choose the Califone 3068AV for a listener who needs over-ear coverage, stated sound isolation, mono/stereo switching, or the longer coiled cord.
My overall pick for a straightforward study setup is the E5, but only when noise reduction is not essential and the device has a compatible headphone jack.
Before choosing either pair, check the connection on the device they will be used with. Both are wired and list a 3.5 mm jack, but the Califone also includes a 1/4-inch adapter. The E5’s supplied details do not mention an adapter, so it is worth confirming compatibility rather than assuming an accessory is included.
Think about where the headphones will be used. The E5’s foldable, swivel design is easier to put away, while the Califone’s long coiled cord may be helpful when the listener needs extra reach. That cord may also feel cumbersome in a small bag or when moving between rooms. Neither product is described as wireless in its main connectivity details.
Finally, match the fit and controls to the listener. The E5 is on-ear and lists media controls. The Califone is over-ear, has a volume knob on each ear cup, and can switch between mono and stereo. Its replaceable leatherette cushions are sold separately. Those are practical differences; the supplied information does not support a claim that one has better sound quality or durability overall.
For a quieter study space and a simple child-focused setup, I would choose the E5 if its on-ear fit suits the listener. For more isolation and over-ear coverage, the Califone is the more fitting option. Neither sheet lists a transparency mode.
The supplied details describe noise-reducing ear cups and sound isolation, not active noise cancellation. It may help reduce surrounding sound, but there is no stated active cancellation feature.
Yes. It has a 3.5 mm plug and also includes a 1/4-inch adapter. The E5 also uses a 3.5 mm jack, while no adapter is listed for it.
Califone lists a three-year warranty, and its leatherette ear cushions can be replaced; replacements are sold separately. The E5 lists a one-year warranty, and its supplied details do not mention replaceable cushions.
